  1. 1. Eosinophilic esophagitis and disease complications : register-based studies

    Author : Lovisa Röjler; Jonas F. Ludvigsson; David Katzka; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eosinophilic esophagitis; dysphagia; cohort studies; mortality; psychiatric comorbidity; adverse pregnancy outcomes;

    Abstract : This thesis presents four studies on Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). The overall aim is to grasp the basics of epidemiologic research and use this understanding on EoE disease complications. EoE is a fairly new inflammatory disease with clinicopathological diagnosis that increases in prevalence. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functional and Phenotypic Studies of Eosinophilic Granulocytes in Patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    Author : Christine Lingblom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adults; children; corticosteroids; eosinophils; eosinophilic esophagitis; FOXP3; galectin-10; inflammation; T cell suppression;

    Abstract : Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, in which the esophagus is infiltrated by eosinophils and T cells. Topical corticosteroids are one of the treatment options for patients with EoE. The function of eosinophils in EoE is unknown, here we hypothesize that eosinophils serve as immunoregulatory cells. 3. 3. Aspects on the management of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis

    Author : Helen Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an inflammatory disorder of the esophagus characterized by symptoms of esophageal dysfunction and eosinophilia in the esophageal mucosa. This condition may affect approximately 1% of the general population and is strongly associated with allergy/atopic diatheses. READ MORE

  4. 4. A Study of Eosinophils – From the Human Thymus to Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    Abstract : Eosinophils are cells of the innate immune system. They primarily reside within tissues and are most numerous in the gastrointestinal tract but are absent from the healthy esophagus. During the inflammatory disease eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophils infiltrate the esophagus but their function is unknown. READ MORE

  5. 5. Liver Transplantation-associated Food Allergy and Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Inflammation in Children - Clinical and Immunological Aspects

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on three recently described childhood-onset gastrointestinal disorders: liver transplantation-associated food allergy (LTFA), collagenous gastritis (CG) and eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Its aim was to gain additional understanding of both the clinical disease characteristics and the associated immunological aberrations in these conditions. READ MORE
