  1. 21. Transcriptional and epigenetic control of gene expression in embryo development

    Author : Ann Boija; Mattias Mannervik; Jerry L. Workman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; Cell specification; Drosophila embryo; Dorsal morphogen; CBP p300; Gene regulation; Chromatin; Promoter proximal Pol II pausing; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : During cell specification, temporal and spatially restricted gene expression programs are set up, forming different cell types and ultimately a multicellular organism. In this thesis, we have studied the molecular mechanisms by which sequence specific transcription factors and coactivators regulate RNA polymerase II (Pol II) transcription to establish specific gene expression programs and what epigenetic patterns that follows. 3. 23. The Neuroblastoma Genome and Epigenome - Patient Stratification and Identification of Candidate Genes

    Author : Helena Carén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cancer; neuroblastoma; epigenetics; DNA methylation; microarray; tumor suppressor gene; tumor; embryonal; neural crest; bisulfite sequencing; 1p36; 11q; MYCN; CASZ1; PIK3CD; PRKCDBP; SCNN1A; TGFBI; DHRS3; KRT19; DUSP23; APITD1; H2AFX;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma (NB) is a tumor of the sympathetic nervous system, and the most common extracranial tumor of childhood. The prognosis for high-stage NBs is still poor, with survival rates of about 35%. Side-effects of treatment in these young children can also be severe. READ MORE

  4. 24. The Monoamine Oxidase A Gene and Antisocial Outcomes : An Examination of Genetic, Epigenetic, and Environmental Factors

    Author : David Checknita; Kent W. Nilsson; Lars Westberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; Antisocial; Genotype; Maltreatment;

    Abstract : Background. Antisocial behaviour involves violation of the basic rights of others or social norms or rules. Such behaviours are indexed in diagnoses such as conduct disorder (CD) in adolescence and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in adulthood, which are typified by comorbidity with mood, anxiety, and substance misuse disorders. 5. 25. Expression and function of Suppressor of zeste 12 in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Sa Chen; Åsa Rasmuson-Lestander; Jan Larsson; Mattias Mannervik; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epigenetics; histone; polycomb; Drosophila; Suppressor of zeste 12; Genetics; Genetik; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : The development of animals and plants needs a higher order of regulation of gene expression to maintain proper cell state. The mechanisms that control what, when and where a gene should (or should not) be expressed are essential for correct organism development. READ MORE
