  1. 21. Phase Noise Tolerant Modulation Formats and DSP Algorithms for Coherent Optical Systems

    Author : Jaime Rodrigo Navarro; Sergei Popov; Gunnar Jacobsen; Richard Schatz; Xiaodan Pang; Oskars Ozolins; Gabriella Bosco; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical communications; carrier phase recovery; blind phase search; circular quadrature amplitude modulation; CmQAM; coherent optical communications; digital signal processing; carrier phase estimation; equalization enhanced phase noise; EEPN; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Coherent detection together with multilevel modulation formats has the potential to significantly increase the capacity of existing optical communication systems at no extra cost in signal bandwidth. However, these modulation formats are more susceptible to the impact of different noise sources and distortions as the distance between its constellation points in the complex plane reduces with the modulation index. 2. 22. Controlling the Influent Load to Wastewater Treatment Plants

    Author : Jon Bolmstedt; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The need for control of the influent load to a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is becoming more important. One reason for this is that there are a number of things that cannot be achieved with plant-focused control. READ MORE

  3. 23. Understanding didactic strategies based on the Laban-Malmgren technique when developing the technical and musical proficiency of singers

    Author : Bo Rosenkull; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; interpretive description; Jung; Laban; Laban-Malmgren technique; Malmgren; movement and singing; participatory action research; self-study; singing technique; Stanislavski; voice pedagogy; Yat Malmgren;

    Abstract : In this thesis multiple methods were used to explore how the use of didactic strategies based on the LMT may enable a voice pedagogue to develop the technical and musical proficiency of singers who specialise in Western art music. Data for this qualitative study were collected by working with fourteen singers in South Africa and Sweden during workshops, masterclasses and individual lessons. READ MORE

  5. 25. High-Throughput Power-Efficient DSP for Fiber-Optic Communication Systems

    Author : Christoffer Fougstedt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Non-linear Impairment Mitigation; Application Specific Integrated Circuits; Forward Error Correction; Fiber Optic Communication; Digital Signal Processing; Communication Systems;

    Abstract : Communication networks are a vital backbone of the modern society. Power dissipation of optical communication links and digital signal processing (DSP) subsystems for these links are a major concern as throughput requirements increase, and the number of deployed systems grows.
