  1. 21. Prognostic Biomarkers and Target Proteins for Treatment of High-grade Gliomas

    Author : Linda Sooman; Simon Ekman; Johan Lennartsson; Joachim Gullbo; Michael Bergqvist; Erik Blomquist; Stefan Bergström; Beatrice Melin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High-grade glioma; prognostic biomarkers; combination chemotherapy; DNA methylation; FGF2; p38 MAPK; PTPN6; camptothecin; imatinib; vandetanib; EGFR; RAC1; Notch; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : The survival for high-grade glioma patients is poor and the treatment may cause severe side effects. A common obstacle in the treatment is chemoresistance. To improve the quality of life and prolong survival for these patients prognostic biomarkers and new approaches for chemotherapy are needed. READ MORE

  2. 22. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 3. 23. Wind and atmospheric stability characteristics over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Xiaoli Guo Larsén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal transition; stable conditions; boundary layer rolls; low level jet; WRF; Baltic Sea; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : In recent years there has been an increase in offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate wind speed estimates in the marine environment, especially in coastal areas where most wind turbines will be placed. This thesis is focused on the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction play an important role in explaining the wind patterns. READ MORE

    Abstract : Background Adolescent subjective health and mental problems have become a public health concern not only in Sweden but worldwide. The overall aim of this thesis is to deepen and widen the understanding of young peoples’ subjective health, psychosomatic and stress-related problems. READ MORE

  5. 25. 3D localization in digital holography from scattered light from micrometer-sized particles

    Author : Johan Öhman; Mikael Sjödahl; Per Bergström; Erik Olsson; Torbjörn Löfqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Digital Holography; Polarization; Particle Scattering; Metrology; Experimentell mekanik; Experimental Mechanics;

    Abstract : When a particle is illuminated by a beam of light it will scatter and redistribute the light in all directions. How it scatters depends on the size, shape and refractive index of the particle. Additionally, it depends on the wavelength and polarization of the illuminating beam. READ MORE
