  1. 21. Ethanol from Lignocellulose: Physiological Effects of Inhibitors and Fermentation Strategies

    Author : Mohammad Taherzadeh Esfahani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fermentation; dilute-acid hydrolyzate; ethanol; hydroxymethyl furfural; furfural; acetic acid; lignocellulose; fed-batch; yeast; pantothenate; control; inhibition; HMF;

    Abstract : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). READ MORE

  2. 22. Alkylation of benzene/ethanol and toluene/methanol over ZSM-5

  3. 23. Insights into the metabolism of Clostridium thermocellum for cellulosic ethanol production

    Author : Johannes Yayo; Antonius J. A. van Maris; Richard Sparling; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clostridium thermocellum; ethanol; glucose; fructose; amino acids; pyrophosphate; chaotropicity; thermodynamic driving force; laboratory evolution; chemostats; metabolic engineering; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : The societal goal of reaching net-zero CO2 emissions requires development of integrated biorefineries to produce biomass-derived fuels and chemicals. For sustainable second-generation bioethanol production, consolidated bioprocessing with the thermophile Clostridium thermocellum is regarded as a promising concept in view of the microorganism’s native ability to efficiently degrade plant cell wall material. 4. 24. Process integration studies on Kraft pulp-mill-based biorefineries producing ethanol

    Author : Rickard Fornell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kraft pulp mill; Ethanol; Energy; Process integration; Biorefinery;

    Abstract : Large scale, sustainable production of biofuels will require commercialization ofprocesses using lignocellulosic feedstocks. These processes are still notcompetitive with existing pathways, however. The competitiveness oflignocellulosic biofuel production plants could potentially be improved if theywere integrated with already existing facilities. READ MORE

  5. 25. Continuous Ethanol Production from Dilute-acid Hydrolyzates: Detoxification and Fermentation Strategy

    Author : Ronny Purwadi; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HMF; serial bioreactor; immobilization; overliming; furfural; ethanol; continuous cultivation; S. cerevisiae; flocculating yeast; continuous detoxification; dilute-acid hydrolyzate;

    Abstract : The production of fuel ethanol from cellulosic biomass is of growing interest around the world. Lignocellulosic residuals can be used to produce transportation fuel, with the overall process having little net production of greenhouse gases. READ MORE
