11. On Sahelian-Sudan rainfall and its moisture sources
Abstract : The African Sahel is one of the most vulnerable regions to climate variability at different time scales. It is an arid to semi-arid region with limited water resources. The summer rainfall is one of these sources, but it exhibits pronounced interannual variability. This thesis presents several aspects of Sahelian Sudan rainfall. READ MORE

12. Modelling and Simulation of Turbulent Gas-Solid Flows applied to Fluidization
Abstract : Modelling of gas-solid suspensions has been studied with emphasis on suitable closure laws. A study of characteristic time scales and energy dissipation mechanisms is made for the case of a simple shear flow. Applications of the modelling are presented in the form of simulation and validation of experiments in fluidized beds. READ MORE

13. A Realizable Hybrid Mixture-Bubble Model for Cavitating Flows
Abstract : Cavitating multi-phase flows include an extensive range of cavity structures with different length scales, from micro bubbles to large sheet cavities that may fully cover the surface of a device. To avoid high computational expenses, incompressible transport equation models are considered a practical option for simulation of large scale cavitating flows, normally with limited representation of the small scale vapour structures. 14. Simulation of Thermal Stresses in a Brake Disc
Abstract : In this thesis thermal stresses in a brake disc during a braking operation are simulated. The simulations are performed by using a sequential approach where the temperature history generated during a frictional heat analysis is used as an input for the stress analysis. READ MORE

15. Patient-Specific Finite Element Modeling of the Blood Flow in the Left Ventricle of a Human Heart
Abstract : Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world. Therefore, numerous studies are undertaken to identify indicators which can be applied to discover cardiac dysfunctions at an early age. READ MORE
