  1. 11. Is the Swedish Environmental Goods and Services Industry Green? : Product and production perspectives

    Author : Bozena Guziana; Erik Dahlquist; Eva Thorin; Cecilia Mark-Herbert; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology sector; Environmental goods and services; Clean technology; ‘Green’ business; ‘Green-green’ business; Production and product related environmental profile; miljöteknik sektor; miljöprodukter och miljötjänster; cleantech; ’gröna’ företag ’green’ business ; ’grön-gröna’ företag ’green-green’ business ; produktions- och produktrelaterad miljöprofil; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : In most business sectors environmental programs focus on direct, production-related environmental impacts. The design and development of products with reduced environmental impact is considered more difficult. The opposite applies in the environmental technology sector. READ MORE

  2. 12. Regional Energy Systems with Retrofitted Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plants

    Author : Song Han; Yan Jinyue; Thorin Eva; Deng Shiming; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : Combined heat and power; Waste-to-Energy WtE ; Regional energy system; Greenhouse gases GHG ; Retrofitting; Optimization; Kraftvärme; Avfall-till-Energi; Regionala Energisystem; Växthusgaser; Uppgradering; Optimering.; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Fossil fuel depletion, economic development, urban expansion and climate change present tough challenges to municipal- and regional-scale energy systems. Regional energy system planning, including waste treatment, renewable energy supply, energy efficiency, and climate change, are considered essential to meet these challenges and move toward a sustainable society. Abstract : The use of biomass-based combined heat and power (CHP) plants is considered by the EU administration to be an effective way to increase the use of renewables in the energy system, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to alleviate the dependency on imported fossil fuels. At present in Sweden, most of the CHP plants are operated in part-load mode because of variations in heat demand. READ MORE

  4. 14. Start-up and operational strategies for deammonification plants : - a study with one-stage moving bed biofilm reactors treating reject water

    Author : Linda Kanders; Eva Thorin; Susanne Lackner; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : To limit eutrophication, wastewater treatment plants use biological methods to convert degraded nitrogen to nitrogen gas. Deammonification, or partial nitritation in combination with anammox, has been shown to be an energy efficient process. READ MORE

  5. 15. Impacts of Thermo-Physical Properties on Chemical Absorption for CO2 Capture

    Author : Worrada Nookuea; Jinyue Yan; Hailong Li; Eva Thorin; Bin Liang; Xiaoyan Ji; Jesus Zambrano; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Following the climate change mitigation target in Paris agreement, the global warming has to be limited to 2.0°C above the preindustrial levels. One of the potential methods is carbon capture and storage (CCS), which can significantly reduce the CO2 emissions from the vast point sources such as power plants, industries, and natural gas processes.
