  1. 1. Exergy Analysis in Buildings : A complementary approach to energy analysis

    Author : Marco Molinari; Folke Björk; Gudni Jóhannesson; Ivo Martinac; KTH; []
    Keywords : Exergy; Energy; Building systems performance; Built environment.;

    Abstract : Though mandatory to be pursued, improved energy efficiency is not the only target to reach. The quality of energy has to be assessed as well. Most of the overall energy use in residential building is for low temperature heat, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exergy Evaluation of Engine Operations : Combustion Process to Exhaust Flow

    Author : Beichuan Hong; Andreas Cronhjort; Mihai Mihaescu; Sundar Rajan Krishnan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal efficiency; Exergy analysis; Marine engine; Lean-burn combustion; Pulsating flow measurement; Pitot tube; Sensitivity analysis; Energy and exergy losses; Termisk verkningsgrad; Exergianalys; Marinmotor; Magertbränningsförbränning; Pulserande flödesmätning; Pitotrör; Känslighetsanalys; Energiförluster och exergiförluster; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Abstract : Transitioning the transport sector to clean energy sources is crucial for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality. A collaborative solution, combining both electric vehicles and combustion engines using renewable fuels, may prove more effective than competitive ones. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aerothermodynamics and exergy analysis in turbocharger radial turbine

    Author : Shyang Maw Lim; Mihai Mihaescu; Anders Dahlkild; Ricardo Martinez-Botas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pulsatile exhaust flow; turbine; turbocharger; Detached Eddy Simulation; heat transfer; exergy; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Coupling of turbomachine to reciprocating automotive engine in turbocharging leads to complex fluid flow and thermal characteristics in the turbine. Some undesirable characteristics include heat transfer, flow pulsation and secondary flow due to the complex geometry of the upstream exhaust manifold. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improving Ship Energy Efficiency through a Systems Perspective

    Author : Francesco Baldi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modelling; shipping; exergy analysis; energy systems; energy efficiency; energy analysis; systems analysis;

    Abstract : The last years have been particularly challenging for the shipping industry. Fuel prices have increased to levels only seen during the oil crisis in the 70's, and environmental regulations have grown much stricter than in the past. Climate change, at a global level, is going to become a major threat to society. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Rational Exergy Management Model to Curb CO2 Emissions in the Exergy-Aware Built Environments of the Future

    Author : Siir Kilkis; Folke Björk; Bahram Moshfegh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Exergy; CO2 emissions; built environment; buildings; energy system; scenario-based analysis; mitigation strategies; net-zero; LEED; energy transition; transition management; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : This thesis puts forth the means of a strategic approach to address a persistent problem in the energy system and in this way, to transition the built environment to a future state that is more exergy-aware to curb CO2 emissions. Such a vision is made possible by the six-fold contributions of the research work: I) An analytical model is developed, which for the first time, formulates the CO2 emissions that are compounded in the energy system as a function of the systematic failures to match the supply and demand of exergy.
