  1. 1. Structure and organization of genes for the predominant seminal plasma proteins semenogelin I, semenogelin II and beta-microseminoprotein

    Author : Magnus Ulvsbäck; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; transglutaminase substrate; semen coagulation; prostate; seminal vesicles; seminal plasma; rhesus monkey; human; evolution; nucleic acid sequence; cDNA; gene; semenogelin; b-microseminoprotein; Klinisk kemi; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : In man, the predominant proteins in the seminal plasma include semenogelin I, semenogelin II and b-microseminoprotein (MSP). Semenogelin I and II are both synthesized in the seminal vesicles and are the backbone of the gel formed upon semen coagulation. MSP is synthesized in the prostate, but its role has not yet been defined. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular studies in different types of melanoma tumors : correlations to clinical data

    Author : Abdlsattar Zebary; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Approximately 90% of melanomas arise from skin sites (known as cutaneous malignant melanoma; CMM), whereas the non-cutaneous melanoma (mucosal and ocular melanomas) are rare, accounting for about 10%. Familial melanoma accounts for up to 10% of patients diagnosed with CMM. Both genetics (e.g. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human glycogen synthase genes. Role in insulin resistance and hypoglycaemia

    Author : Marju Orho-Melander; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mutation; GYS2; GYS1; glycogen synthase; glycogen; insulin resistance; hypoglycaemia; liver glycogen synthase deficiency; glycogen storage disease type 0; Type 2 diabetes; metabolic syndrome; expression; chromosome 19; 19q13.3; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Effective insulin-stimulated storage of excess glucose after a meal, and its rapid mobilisation in the fasting state provide basis of glucose homeostasis. Glycogen is the macromolecular storage form of glucose and glycogen synthase (GS) is the rate-limiting enzyme in glycogen synthesis. Skeletal muscle and liver are the major depots of glycogen. 4. 4. Hormone-sensitive lipase: Molecular analyses of the human gene; structural and evolutionary aspects on expression, alternative splicing and cold adaptation

    Author : Henrik Laurell; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymologi; Proteiner; Proteins; enzymology;

    Abstract : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is a key enzyme in adipose tissue that hydrolyses stored fat (triacylglycerol). The activity of HSL is under strict hormonal and neural control. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Nucleosome as a Signal Carrying Unit : From Experimental Data to Combinatorial Models of Transcriptional Control

    Author : Stefan Enroth; Jan Komorowski; Claes Wadelius; Rickard Sandberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Next generation sequencing; Nucleosome; Histone modification; Transcriptional regulation; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics;

    Abstract : The human genome consists of over 3 billion nucleotides and would be around 2 meters long if uncoiled and laid out. Each human somatic cell contains all this in their nucleus which is only around 5 µm across. This extreme compaction is largely achieved by wrapping the DNA around a histone octamer, the nucleosome.
