    Author : Yuli Liang; Tatjana von Rosen; Dietrich von Rosen; Abdullah Almasri; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Block circular symmetry; Covariance matrix; Explicit solution; Maximum likelihood estimator; Multilevel model; Spectrum; statistik; Statistics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the study of multilevel models with specific patterned covariance structures and addresses the issues of maximum likelihoodestimation. In particular, circular symmetric hierarchical datastructures are considered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Explicit algebraic turbulence modelling in buoyancy-affected shear flows

    Author : Werner Lazeroms; Arne Johansson; Antti Hellsten; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Turbulent flows affected by buoyancy forces occur in a large amount of applica-tions, from heat transfer in industrial settings to the effects of stratification inEarth’s atmosphere. The two-way coupling between the Reynolds stresses andthe turbulent heat flux present in these flows poses a challenge in the searchfor an appropriate turbulence model. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computational homogenisation and solution strategies for phase-field fracture

    Author : Ritukesh Bharali; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; irreversibility; multi-scale; slack variable; micromorphic; quasi-brittle; brittle; phase-field fracture; homogenisation;

    Abstract : The computational modelling of fracture not only provides a deep insight into the underlying mechanisms that trigger a fracture but also offers information on the post-fracture behaviour (e.g., residual strength) of engineering materials and structures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Author : Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem.
