  1. 21. Sitting on the Fence – Critical Explorations of Participatory Practices in IT Design

    Author : Johanna Sefyrin; Christina Mörtberg; Katarina Lindblad Gidlund; Karl W Sandberg; Helena Karasti; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; IT design; Participatory Design; feminist technoscience; participation; gender; power and knowledge relations; entanglements; Informatics; computer and systems science; Informatik; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis is about participation in IT design. The problem background that I have outlined is that information technologies have far reaching consequences for societies and for individuals, and that the design of information technologies is one among many practices that shape the world in which we live. 2. 22. Extending Opera - Artist-led Explorations in Operatic Practice through Interactivity and Electronics

    Author : Carl Unander-Scharin; Kristina Höök; Wendy Mackay; Stockholms konstnärliga högskola; []

    Abstract : How can we re-empower opera singers, extending their control over accompaniment and vocal expressivity? To answer this question, I have opened a novel design space, Extending Opera, consisting of interactive artist–operated tools to be used on-stage. The research has its methodological groundings in Research through Design (RtD) and Research through the Arts (RttA). READ MORE

  3. 23. Solids flows in circulating fluidized beds: explorations of phenomena with applications to boilers

    Author : Tove Djerf; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solids flow; fluidization; scaling; circulating fluidized bed boiler; fluid dynamics;

    Abstract : The circulating fluidized bed (CFB), which is a technology that is commonly used in the heat and power sector, efficiently converts renewable and/or and low-grade solid fuels, such as biomass and biogenic waste fractions. CFB units serve also as a technological platform for carbon capture processes (combustion by oxy-firing or chemical looping), which are foreseen to play a key role in the transition of the energy system towards decreased atmospheric CO2 emissions. 4. 24. Finding fitness : empirical and theoretical explorations of inferring fitness effects from population-level SNP data

    Author : Bea Angelica Andersson; Xiao-Ru Wang; Åke Brännström; Tanja Slotte; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; distribution of fitness effects; site frequency spectra; missing data filtering; downsampling; imputation; sample size; population structure; inbreeding; selfing; homozygosity; Arabidopsis; Pinus; DFE-alpha; SLiM; population genomics; adaptation; biology; biologi; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics; populationsbiologi; Population Biology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : The distribution of fitness effects (DFE) describes the likelihood that a new mutation has a specific effect on the fitness of an individual in a given population. The shape of the DFE is a result of several factors such as population size, mating system and selective environment, and can in turn influence the evolutionary potential of a species. READ MORE
