1. Phenomenological Studies on Supersymmetry and the Strong Force
Abstract : In this thesis, we first consider the phenomenology of R-parity violating supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. Specifically, a large number of Lepton and Baryon Number violating decays of sparticles to particles are implemented in the Pythia event generator. READ MORE

2. The Complex World of Superstrings : On Semichiral Sigma Models and N=(4,4) Supersymmetry
Abstract : Non-linear sigma models with extended supersymmetry have constrained target space geometries, and can serve as effective tools for investigating and constructing new geometries. Analyzing the geometrical and topological properties of sigma models is necessary to understand the underlying structures of string theory. READ MORE

3. Strings, Branes and Symmetries
Abstract : Recent dramatic progress in the understanding of the non-perturbative structure of superstring theory shows that extended objects of various kinds, collectively referred to as p-branes, are an integral part of the theory. In this thesis, comprising an introductory text divided in two parts and seven appended research papers (Papers I-VII), we study various aspects of p-branes with relevance for superstring theory. 4. Off-shell, maximal supersymmetry & exceptional geometry
Abstract : Two lines of research are presented in this thesis, both with a focus on fundamental properties within the supersymmetric theories of high energy physics. The first features analyses based on the actions for maximal supersymmetric Yang–Mills theory and supergravity, provided by the pure spinor formalism. READ MORE

5. Exploration of extended Higgs sectors, development of a displaced track trigger, and improvements in GRID middleware
Abstract : Two possible solutions to the Standard Model (SM) fine-tuning problem are presented in this thesis, MSSM and Compositeness. The Higgs sector of the MSSM can be tested by searching for charged Higgs bosons. Two direct searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a top- and bottom-quark are performed using 13.2 and 36.
