  1. 6. Melt-processing and properties of thermoplastic composites based on ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer reinforced with wood nanocellulose

    Author : Abhijit Venkatesh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp fibers; Melt rheology; Composite; Injection moulding; Cellulose; Cellulose nanofibers; Cellulose nanocrystals; Extrusion; Mechanical properties;

    Abstract : Composites reinforced with cellulose nanofibers (CNF), both modified and unmodified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and pulp fibers have been prepared through small-scale and large-scale methods. The composites were produced by water-assisted dispersion mixing, drying and compression moulding on the laboratory scale and by extrusion and injection moulding for the large-scale production. 2. 7. Foaming of Some Cellulose Derivatives - Initial Studies

    Author : Kristina Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rheological characterisation; Foaming; hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC ; scale-up production; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose EHEC ; hot-mould baking; cellulose derivatives; extrusion;

    Abstract : Fossil-based polymeric foams, based on polymers such as polystyrene and polyurethane, are important and widely employed materials due to their good mechanical properties relative their low density, the low price and the possibility for large-scale production. There are however a few disadvantages with these foamed products. READ MORE

  3. 8. Processing and properties of nanocomposites based on polylactic acid, chitin and cellulose

    Author : Natalia Herrera Vargas; Kristiina Oksman; Aji P. Mathew; Jyrki Vuorinen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanocomposite; Cellulose; Chitin; Extrusion; Polylactic acid; Trä och bionanokompositer; Wood and Bionanocomposites;

    Abstract : The production of bio-based and biodegradable nanocomposites has gained attention during recent years for environmental reasons; however, the large-scale production of these nanocomposites still poses challenges. The objective of this work has been to prepare bio-based and biodegradable nanocomposites via liquid-assisted extrusion and to gain a deeper understanding of the process and the relationship between the process, composition, structure and properties. 4. 9. Processing and Development of Wheat Gluten Plastics

    Author : Henrik Ullsten; Mikael S. Hedenqvist; Nathalie Gontard; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wheat Gluten; Extrusion; Processing; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract :  Renewable packaging materials are of interest for a more sustainable environment. Wheat gluten is one of the most interesting candidates to replace petroleum-based oxygen-barrier polymers for packaging applications. READ MORE

  5. 10. Processing and Properties of Expanded Starch Materials

    Author : Mia Sjöqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; amylopectin; extrusion; starch; porosity; foams; moisture content; amylose; microwave treatment; absorption;

    Abstract : The need to strive towards a more sustainable development of the society is becoming increasingly urgent. As the population of the world is growing so is society´s impact on the environment. This is causing environmental problems with growing amounts of waste. READ MORE
