  1. 1. Biomechanical Analysis of Fall Injuries using Finite Element Modeling

    Author : Pooya Sahandifar; Svein Kleiven; Viveca Wallqvist; Yunhua Luo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fall induced injury; finite element analysis; rubberized asphalt mixture; shock-absorbing pavement; hip fracture; elderly; sideways fall; whole-body model;

    Abstract : A fall is a serious health issue for the elderly. Among different fall types, the sideways fall is considered to be more severe concerning the injury outcome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Distance Protection of Transmission Lines with High Levels of Series Compensation : A study on frequency and time domain communication independent distance protection for series compensated lines

    Author : Md Tanbhir Hoq; Nathaniel Taylor; Jianping Wang; Claus Leth Bak; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Series capacitor; Series compensation; Transmission line; Distance protection; Incremental quantity; Lissajous curve; RL model; RLC model; Seriekondensator; Seriekompensation; Transmissionslinje; Distansskydd; Inkrementell kvantitet; Lissajous-kurva; RL-modell; RLC-modell; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Series capacitors are used in electric transmission lines to increase their power transfer capacity. They compensate for the inductive reactance of the line. They offer a useful alternative to building new lines, in view of economic and environmental constraints. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel

    Author : Lina Ejenstam; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Jinshan Pan; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : Superhydrophobic coating; hydrophobic coating; corrosion protection; contact angles; electrochemical measurements; surface characterization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties. 4. 4. Managing Migration Flows by processing Personal Data within the adequate Data Protection Instrument : Scoping Exercise between general and law enforcement Data Protection Rules applicable to Third Country Nationals

    Author : Teresa Quintel; Maria Bergström; Wojciech Wiewiórowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; EU data protection; third country nationals; immigration; Directive EU 2016 680; Regulation EU 2018 1725; Europarätt; European Integration Law;

    Abstract : In the aftermath of increased migration flows coming to Europe in 2015, the so-called migration crisis, irregular migration and related crimes such as migrant smuggling and human trafficking became a hotly debated topic on European Union (EU) level. The results of those discussions were the fortification of the EU’s external borders, the strengthening of the mandate of relevant EU Agencies and the establishment of new databases in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (AFSJ). 5. 5. Towards sustainability of environmental protection : recovery of nutrients from wastewater filtration and the washing of arsenic contaminated soils

    Author : Lea Rastas Amofah; Helen French; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Conventional methods for wastewater treatment and remediation of the sites withcontaminated soils focus on protection of human health, receiving waters and theenvironment. Towards this end, these methods concentrate on the reduction or removal of polluting substances, and therefore, are not well suited for creating resources through the recovery of nutrients, energy and decontaminated soils.
