  1. 1. Development of Methods for Assessing Unbound Drug Exposure in the Brain In vivo, in vitro and in silico

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Markus Fridén; Uppsala universitet.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; Drug transport; Tissue distribution; Transporters; Pharmacokinetics; PHARMACY Other pharmacy; FARMACI Övrig farmaci; PHARMACY Biopharmacy; FARMACI Biofarmaci; PHARMACY Pharmaceutical pharmacology; FARMACI Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Abstract : The blood-brain barrier is formed by tightly joined capillary cells with transporter proteins and acts as to regulate the brain concentration of nutrients as well as many drugs. When developing central nervous system drugs it is necessary to measure the unbound drug concentration in the brain, i.e. the unbound brain exposure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and Evaluation of Nonparametric Mixed Effects Models

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Paul Baverel; Uppsala universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nonparametric; model; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamic; imprecision; covariate analysis; parameter distribution; SOCIAL SCIENCES Statistics; computer and systems science; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Statistik; data- och systemvetenskap; PHARMACY Pharmaceutical pharmacology; FARMACI Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Biopharmaceutics; Biofarmaci; Clinical Pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi; Computer Systems; Datorteknik; Farmakologi; Pharmacology; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : A nonparametric population approach is now accessible to a more comprehensive network of modelers given its recent implementation into the popular NONMEM application, previously limited in scope by standard parametric approaches for the analysis of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data. The aim of this thesis was to assess the relative merits and downsides of nonparametric models in a nonlinear mixed effects framework in comparison with a set of parametric models developed in NONMEM based on real datasets and when applied to simple experimental settings, and to develop new diagnostic tools adapted to nonparametric models. 3. 3. Nasal administration of compounds active in the central nervous system Exploring the olfactory system

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maria Dahlin; Uppsala universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Nasal administration; olfactory pathway; cerebrospinal fluid; autoradiography; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : The nasal administration of drugs offers advantages over administration by intravenous injection. Drugs can be rapidly absorbed through the nasal mucosa, resulting in a rapid onset of action, and also avoiding degradation in the gastrointestinal tract and first-pass metabolism in the liver. 4. 4. A supercritical fluids extraction process for the production of drug loaded biodegradable microparticles

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Raouf Ghaderi; Uppsala universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to develop methods suitable for the incorporation of drug substancessuch as proteins into microparticles intended for controlled release. In particular a novel techniquefor the preparation of microparticles using supercritical fluids was investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Solid state characterisation and compaction behaviour of pharmaceutical materials

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Christina Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Solid-state; Tablet; Thermal analysis; Cellulose; Spectroscopy; NMR; NIR; FT-IR; Crystallinity; MVDA; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, factors important in tableting operations and for tablet properties have been studied and characterised by different spectroscopic techniques as well as by some more conventionally used particle characterisation techniques. The spectroscopic techniques solid-state NMR, FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy, proved to be valuable tools in the estimation of particle and tablet properties, offering both specificity and sensitivity in the measurements.
