1. Automated Computational Modeling
Abstract : This thesis is part of the FEniCS project of Automation of Computational Mathematical Modeling (ACMM) as the modern manifestation of the basic principle of science:formulating mathematical equations (modeling) and solving equations (computation). The vision of FEniCS is to set a new standard towards the goals of generality, efficiency, and simplicity, concerning mathematical methodology, implementation, and application. READ MORE

2. Multiphase continuum modeling of wood : A hybrid mixture theory approach
Abstract : Wood has been used as a construction material for a very long time. The development of efficient industrial production processes of wood has expanded the use of the material with the introduction of new products, such as engineered wood products. READ MORE

3. Modeling of induction stirred ladles
Abstract : Over the years numerous computational fluid dynamics models have been developed in order to study the fluid flow in gas and induction stirred ladles. These models are used to gain insight in the industrial processes used in ladle treatment of steel. A unified model of an induction stirred Ladle in two and three dimensions is presented. READ MORE

4. Continuum modeling of paperboard for the mechanical response of converting processes
Abstract : Paperboard is a thin and lightweight material made of cellulose fibers and it is an important component in packaging material where it provides stiffness and rigidity. The scope of this work is the development of continuum models, and its numerical treatments, for simulating the processes of converting paperboard into packages. READ MORE

5. Meso-Mechanical Modeling of Thin Adhesive Layers
Abstract : A thin adhesive layer is analyzed using a representative volume element (RVE). The RVE is comprised by, both continuum and interfacial finite elements. The interface elements allow for crack initiation and crack propagation. To obtain realistic results from the RVE simulation, an in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is performed.
