  1. 6. FGF signaling in specification of hESC-derived definitive endoderm

    Author : Jacqueline Ameri; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Diabetes affects around 200 million people worldwide. Curing diabetes would require the prevention of autoimmune destruction of beta cells and restoration of the beta cell mass restored either through regeneration or transplantation of the insulin producing cells. READ MORE

  2. 7. Towards a cohesive understanding of the DNA damage response as a therapeutic target

    Author : Martin Scherzer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : At the basis of the complexity that forms a human being is a highly regulated interplay of factors found at a molecular, cellular, and macroscopic level. Ever since we evolved to work this way, even the slightest dysregulation at the molecular level can cascade and manifest as a non-communicable disease which ultimately affects the whole organism. 3. 8. Directing Angiogenesis : Cellular Responses to Gradients in vitro

    Author : Irmeli Barkefors; Johan Kreuger; Lena Kjellén; Pär Gerwins; Ferdinand Le Noble; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; Endothelial cell; Cell migration; Chemotaxis; Gradients; Microfluidics; VEGFA; VEGFR2; Exocyst; Exocytosis; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Blood vessels are essential for the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to tissues, as well as for the removal of waste products. Patients with tumors, wounds or diabetes all have active angiogenesis, formation and remodeling of blood vessels, a process that is initiated and manipulated by gradients of secreted signaling proteins. 4. 9. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling

    Author : Nadja Jastrebova; Dorothe Spillmann; Ulf Lindahl; John T. Gallagher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; heparan sulfate; oligosaccharide; fibroblast growth factor; fibroblast growth factor signaling; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge. 5. 10. Vascular development and safeguard mechanisms against tumorigenesis : oncogene-induced apoptosis and cellular senescence

    Author : Eduar Hejll; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Angiogenesis;

    Abstract : Angiogenesis, apoptosis and senescence are all cellular processes that have an impact on tumor development. Angiogenesis or the new vessel formation from pre-existing ones is known to be required for invasive tumor growth and metastasis. READ MORE
