  1. 1. DNA checkpoint override and redox signaling in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Author : Johanna J Sjölander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caffeine; Cell cycle; Checkpoint; Cdc25; Wee1; TORC1; FHIT; Proliferation; Aph1; Redox; Hypoxia; H2O2; Cysteine; Thiol; Allosteric; MAPK; Sty1; MAPKK; Wis1;

    Abstract : This thesis covers intracellular stress signaling through genotoxic stress, overriding of checkpoint control, as well as cellular redox status in hypoxic and oxidative stress Papers I and II: Caffeine has been shown to override cell cycle checkpoints in humans as well as in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Understanding of the mechanism may aid in the development of compounds with similar overriding mechanisms for sensitization in cancer therapy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular Genetic Studies on Prostate and Penile Cancer

    Author : Patiyan Andersson; Peter Söderkvist; Mattias Höglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; IRS1; penile cancer; hTERT; FHIT; PIK3CA; HRAS; KRAS; NRAS; BRAF; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is comprised of two parts. In the first part we study the influence of four frequently disputed genes on the susceptibility for developing prostate cancer, and in the second part we attempt to establish a basic understanding of the molecular genetic events in penile cancer. 3. 3. Genetic alterations in Scandinavian neuroblastoma tumors

    Author : Katarina Ejeskär; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neuroblastoma; loss of heterozygozity; deletion; 1p; 3p; CDC2L1; TP73; CORT; FHIT;

    Abstract : The results presented here derive from our efforts to find genes and chromosomal regions of interest in the formation and progression of the childhood tumor neuroblastoma.Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor of childhood. READ MORE

  4. 4. A microcell hybrid based elimination test to identify human chromosome 3 regions that antagonize tumor growth

    Author : Irina Kholodnyuk Holodnuka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Deletions at multiple sites on the short arm of chr3 have been detected in many different types of human tumors. Each of the deleted regions is expected to harbor a tumor antagonizing/suppressor gene(s) (TSG). The earlier studies showed that the tumorigenicity of malignant cells could be suppressed by introducing a single human chr3. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular progression and clonality or urinary bladder cancer

    Author : Jari Louhelainen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The general aim of this work was to investigate the clonality of multifocal bladder tumours, chromosomal deletions and model the initiation-progression of bladder tumours at a molecular level using microsatellite analysis. In a population-based study, we found correlation between stage and grade and the prevalence of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at all observed chromosome 13 loci and stage and grade, respectively.
