  1. 1. Functional Traits in Sphagnum

    Author : Fia Bengtsson; Håkan Rydin; Gustaf Granath; Cronberg Nils; Sari Juutinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peat mosses; functional traits; NPP; decay resistance; N2 fixation; desiccation resistance; climate; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are ecosystem engineers that largely govern carbon sequestration in northern hemisphere peatlands. I investigated functional traits in Sphagnum species and addressed the questions: (I) Are growth, photosynthesis and decomposition and the trade-offs between these traits related to habitat or phylogeny?, (II) Which are the determinants of decomposition and are there trade-offs between metabolites that affect decomposition?, (III) How do macro-climate and local environment determine growth in Sphagnum across the Holarctic?, (IV) How does N2 fixation vary among different species and habitats?, (V) How do species from different microtopographic niches avoid or tolerate desiccation, and are leaf and structural traits adaptations to growth high above the water table?Photosynthetic rate and decomposition in laboratory conditions (innate growth and decay resistance) were related to growth and decomposition in their natural habitats. 2. 2. Anabolic Androgenic Steroids and Criminality

    Author : Fia Klötz; Ingemar Thiblin; Niklas Långström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Psychiatry; Anabolic steroids; Violence; Crime; Substance abuse; Psykiatri;

    Abstract : Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) have been associated with adverse psychiatric effects, aggression and violent behaviour. The use of them has spread to a larger subpopulation, and the use has been connected to different risk behaviours, such as use of other illicit substances and carrying a gun. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gender (in)equality within the Swedish Armed Forces : Resistance and Functional Disinclination

    Author : Frida Linehagen; Misse Wester; Aida Alvinius; Magnus Persson; Fia Sundevall; Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; gender equality; military; Swedish Armed Forces; resistance; military profession; Ledarskap och ledning; Leadership and Command Control; gender equality; military; Swedish Armed Forces; resistance; military profession;

    Abstract : Historically and traditionally, military work has been closely associated with men. However, the post-Cold War normalization process has brought about a transformation in both the Swedish Armed Forces themselves and the perception of the organization. READ MORE

    Abstract : A new type of Bioelectronic Nanosensor Device with potential applications in medicine,biotechnology and environmental analysis was designed. The nanosensor is based on RISFET (Regional Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor) technology. READ MORE

  5. 5. Multidetection and chemometrics in flow injection analysis

    Author : Robert Tryzell; Elo H. Hansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : An ideal method for the determination of ions in aqueous solutions should be fast, inexpensive, simple, reliable and require small sample volumes. Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) is in many respects such an ideal method but it is too often limited to the determination of one analyte at a time. READ MORE
