11. Fabrication and Functionalization of Graphene and Other Carbon Nanomaterials in Solution
Abstract : In the last decades several new nanostructures of carbon have been discovered, including carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and the recently discovered 2-dimensional graphene. These new materials exhibit extraordinary and unique properties—making them extremely interesting both for fundamental science and for future applications. READ MORE

12. Synthesis and transport properties of 2D transition metal carbides (MXenes)
Abstract : Since the isolation and characterization of graphene, there has been a growing interest in 2D materials owing to their unique properties compared to their 3D counterparts. Recently, a family of 2D materials of early transition metal carbides and nitrides, labelled MXenes, has been discovered (Ti2CTz, Ti3C2Tz, Mo2TiC2Tz, Ti3CNTz, Ta4C3Tz, Ti4N3Tz among many others), where T stands for surface-terminating groups (O, OH, and F). 13. Development of Mild Methods for Selective Covalent Functionalization of Graphene
Abstract : This thesis discusses methods for the comparatively mild covalent functionalization of graphene. Several graphene models were investigated: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-graphene on SiO2/Si substrate, graphite foil, graphite flakes, kish graphite and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. 14. Hydrothermal recycling of natural and synthetic polymers to functional carbon materials
Abstract : Utilizing renewable recourses and waste recycling are necessary for reaching a circular resource society. The concept of this thesis was to set up a sustainable recycling route, suitable even for low quality biopolymer and plastic waste for production of functional carbon materials. READ MORE

15. Material recycling of post-consumer flexible polyethylene packaging waste
Abstract : The mechanical and thermal properties of recycled post-consumer flexible polyethylene packaging waste was studied, using material collected and sorted on a large-scale from two sources. Unwashed, laboratory-scale washed, industrial-scale washed, and industrial-scale washed and melt-compounded (industrially recycled) materials were used. READ MORE
