  1. 1. Fine needle aspiration diagnosis of spindle cell tumors of soft tissue, including the use of ancillary methods, and correlation with clinical data

    Author : Henryk Domanski; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; patologisk anatomi; General pathology; pathological anatomy; spindle cell lipoma; soft tissue; spindle cell tumors; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; schwannoma; neurilemoma; leiomyosarcoma; immunocytochemistry; FNA; fine needle aspiration; dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans; elastofibroma dorsi; Cytology; electron microscopy;

    Abstract : Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is gaining increased popularity in the diagnosis of soft tissue lesions. FNAC used as a primary examination method to obtain a morphologic diagnosis, has been part of the diagnostic work-up of patients admitted to the Musculoskeletal Tumor Center of the Lund University Hospital since 1972. 2. 2. On prognostic and treatment predictive factors in early stage breast cancer

    Author : Ann-Marie Billgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Prognostic factors; predictive factors; PF; Cathepsin D; PAI-1; changes in biological markers; ER; FNA;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in Swedish women and the incidence is increasing with 1-2% per year in the Stockholm area. A subgroup of patients is women diagnosed with primary inoperable disease. This group constitutes about 15% of all women affected by breast cancer. READ MORE

  3. 3. Overcoming the Barriers of Fine-Needle Aspiration

    Abstract : Cysts, closed sac-like structures filled with fluid or air, can form anywhere in the body. In the majority of cases, cysts are benign (not cancerous). However, these structures can also be precursors of cancer, pointing to the location where cancer can originate. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in nociception : interactions with substance P and opioids

    Author : Long-Chuan Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Calcitonin gene-related peptide CGRP ; CGRP8-37; CGRP-like immunoreactivity; carrageenan; dorsal horn; dorsal root ganglion DRG ; experimentally-induced inflammtion ß-funaltrexamine ß-FNA ; hindpaw withdrawl latency HWL ; hot-plate test; ;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its antagonist CGRP8-37 and the interactions with substance P and opioids on the transmission of presumed nociceptive information at the spinal cord level in the rat. Significant bilateral increases in hindpaw withdrawal latency (HWL) to heat and mechanical stimulation were induced dose-dependently by intrathecal administration of 5 or 10 but no 1 nmol of CGRP8-37. 5. 5. Fine needle aspiration cytology in diagnosis and management of childhood small round cell tumours

    Author : Björn Fröstad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : child; adolescence; cytology; fine-needle aspiration; lymphoma; rhabdomyosarcoma; neuroblastoma; ganglioneuroma; Ewing s sarcoma; primitive neuroectodermal tumour; fluorescent in situ hybridisation FISH ; diagnosis; prognosis;

    Abstract : Fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology is accepted for diagnosing malignant tumours in adults. However, it has been slow in gaining acceptance among paediatricians and has only been used at some centres in the routine diagnosis of childhood tumours. READ MORE
