  1. 1. The Anticoincidence System of the PAMELA Satellite Experiment : Design of the data acquisition system and performance studies

    Author : Johan Lundquist; Mark Pearce; Tony Weidberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAMELA; satellites; astroparticle physics; electronics; anticoincidence system; trigger system; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik;

    Abstract : PAMELA is a satellite-borne cosmic ray experiment. Its primary scientific objective is to study the antiproton and positron components of the cosmic radiation. This will be done with unprecedented statistics over a wide energy range (~10MeV to ~100GeV). READ MORE

  2. 2. FPGA-based Instrumentation for Advanced Physics Experiments

    Author : Attila Hidvégi; Samuel Silverstein; Martin Grossmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; Data acquisition; clock distribution; trigger; FPGA; PCB; LHC; ATLAS; XFEL; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Modern physical experiments often demand advanced instrumentation based on advances in  technology. This work describes four instrumentation physics projects that are based on modern, high-capacity Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, making use of their versatility, programmability, high bandwidth communication interfaces and signal processing capabilities. 3. 3. Adaptive Computing based on FPGA Run-time Reconfigurability

    Author : Ming Liu; Lu Zhonghai; Jantsch Axel; Zipf Peter; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptive computing; FPGA partial reconfiguration; Information technology; Informationsteknik;

    Abstract : In the past two decades, FPGA has been witnessed from its restricted use as glue logic towards real System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms. Profiting from the great development on semiconductor and IC technologies, the programmability of FPGAs enables themselves wide adoption in all kinds of aspects of embedded designs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development of the read-out link and control board for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Upgrade

    Author : Eduardo Valdés Santurio; Samuel Bryant Silverstein; Costas Foudas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HL-LHC; ATLAS; Tile Calorimeter; TileCal; Demonstrator; Daughterboard; Read-out; Digital electronics; Data acquisition; Radiation tolerant; GBTx; TID; NIEL; SEU; SEL; FPGA; Kintex 7; Ultrascale; Ultrascale ; Optic Links; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The Phase-II upgrade plan for the ATLAS Hadronic Tile Calorimeter facing the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era includes approximately 1000 radiation tolerant read-out link and control boards (Daughterboards) that will provide full-granularity digital data to a fully-digital trigger system off-detector through multi-Gbps optic fibres. Different Daughterboard (DB) revisions have been developed, each successively aiming to meet the demanding HL-LHC requirements. READ MORE

  5. 5. Readout link and control board for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter upgrade

    Author : Steffen Lothar Muschter; Christian Bohm; Francesco Lanni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital electronics; FPGA; Data acquisition; Detector readout; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the CERN laboratory was designed to study the elementary particles and forces and search for new physics.  Detectors at LHC were designed to observe proton-proton collisions with center of mass energies up to 14 TeV, seven times higher than previously possible.
