  1. 6. Diffusion of large molecules in steam-exploded wood

    Author : Patric Kvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood; Large Molecules; Diffusion; LBM; Steam Explosion; FRAP;

    Abstract : The diffusion of large molecules in wood pre-treated with steam explosion is important to understand in the context of the materials biorefinery. Steam explosion is a pretreatment method used to both open up the internal structure of wood and increase the accessibility of the cell walls of the wood with the use of high-pressure steam, and it is considered an energy-efficient method. 2. 7. Fluorescence Studies of Cell Division in Escherichia coli

    Author : Bill Söderström; Gunnar von Heijne; Jie Xiao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; Cell division; FtsZ; Fluorescence microscopy; FRAP; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : In Escherichia coli the cell division is carried out by a large dynamic protein complex called the divisome. The divisome assembles in a two-step manner starting with the localization of the eukaryotic tubulin homologue FtsZ to the midcell. Together with other early arriving proteins FtsZ form an intermediate structure called the Z-ring. READ MORE

  3. 8. Structure Dynamics and Heterogeneity in Soft Materials Determined by FRAP

    Author : Joel H Hagman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soft materials; Fluorescence recovery after photobelaching; Confocal microscopy; Heterogeneity; Structure dynamics;

    Abstract : A common interest in industry today is to be able to control the mass transport inside soft (bio) materials in order to tailor both release and uptake of substances. Most of the materials used are heterogeneous, quite often multiphase or compound materials and often undergo dynamic changes; it is therefore important to have control over the local microstructure in order to tailor the macroscale properties. 4. 9. The effects of neurotrophic substances on primary sensory neurons following peripheral nerve injury

    Author : Petri Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : DRG; dorsal horn; NGF; BDNF; NT-3; substance P; calcitonin gene-related peptide; fluoride-resistant acid phosphatase; carbonic anhydrase; microglia; astroglia;

    Abstract : Sensory impulses from the periphery is transmitted by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root and cranial nerve ganglia. The primary sensory neurons are phenotypically diverse with regard to their expression of various chemical components. READ MORE

  5. 10. Dynamic aspects of nucleocytoplasmic trafficking

    Author : Cecilia Rustum; Einar Hallberg; Urs Greber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Cellular structures and compartmentalization is the result of a dynamic steady state exchange between its components. This thesis is focused in investigations of dynamic properties of green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labeled proteins in live cells using confocal laser microscopy in combination with bleaching techniques such as fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) and fluorescence loss in photobleaching (FLIP).
