  2. 2. Studies of receptors and modulatory mechanisms in functional responses to cysteinyl-leukotrienes in smooth muscle

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Institute of Enviromental Medicine

    Author : Magnus Bäck; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2001]

    Abstract : Cysteinyl-leukotrienes, i.e. leukotriene (LT) C4, D4 and E4, are inflammatory mediators and potent airway- and vasoconstrictors. Two different cysteinyl-leukotriene receptors have been cloned, CysLT, and CysLT2. READ MORE

  3. 3. Signaling via Orexin Receptors A Pharmacological Study

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Tomas Holmqvist; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; orexin; receptors; calcium; cAMP; adenylyl cyclases; Fysiologi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology Physiology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The orexin receptors are a pair of newly discovered G-protein coupled receptors which are activated by the neuropeptides orexins and play a role in sleep/vigilance, apetite/metabolism and neuroendocrine regulation. On a cellular level receptor activation results in, to name but a few effects, elevation of intracellular calcium and depolarisation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Population-level consequences of spatial interactions

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Henrik Sjödin; Umeå universitet.; [2013]

    Abstract : How is the nature of populations governed by the movement decisions made by their members? This is the core question in this thesis. To answer this question, I first assume that s movement decisions are based on conditions in their local environment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Predator-prey interactions of raptors in an arctic environment

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Zoologiska institutionen

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology of raptors; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the predator-prey interactions of three raptor species in a Swedish arctic community: the gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus), the rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos).The gyrfalcon behaved like a highly specialised ptarmigan (Lagopus spp.) predator.
