  1. 16. Structural studies of proteins essential for fertilization

    Author : Elisa Dioguardi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Where do babies come from? Even though it sounds like a fairly obvious question, it took more than 200 years to discover that sperm, whose first observation dates back to the 17th century, can penetrate into the oocyte and fuse with it. Interestingly, this initial study was carried out in starfish, and since then, scientists have addressed the fascinating question of how gamete recognition functions using very different model systems. 2. 17. Advances in Stellar Astrophysics from Laboratory Spectroscopy

    Author : Stefan Ivarsson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; iridium; osmium; uranium; oscillator strengths; Spectroscopy; term analysis; line profiles; line structure; astrophysics; Sun; Chi Lupi; 17 Comae A; chemically peculiar; praseodymium; stars; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Ivarsson;

    Abstract : Investigation of astrophysical plasmas, such as stellar atmospheres, require both knowledge of atomic structure and data. We present laboratory instruments, techniques and tools for acquisition of the data required to derive important atomic parameters such as, wavelengths, oscillator strengths and line profiles. 3. 18. Activation of retrovirus spikes for membrane fusion

    Author : Robin Löving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Retroviruses are enveloped viruses that use reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into DNA which is integrated into the host DNA. They enter into the cell by a membrane fusion process. In this the viral membrane fuses with that of the cell so that the internal capsid of the virus with the genome can be released into the cell cytoplasm. READ MORE

  4. 19. Revisiting cell specification and differentiation in the Drosophila airways, an insect organ homologous to our lung and blood vessels

    Author : Ryo Matsuda; Christos Samakovlis; Payre Francois; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell differentiation; airways; Drosophila; cell signaling; transcription factors; utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : Oxygen is essential for life. Aquatic ancestral animal species are thought to have independently terrestrialized and invented distinct strategies for efficient oxygen supply. The respiratory system of vertebrates like us is composed of lungs connected to the vasculature while insects have a single system delivering air directly to internal tissues. READ MORE

  5. 20. Statistical gas distribution modelling for mobile robot applications

    Author : Matteo Reggente; Achim Lilienthal; Krishna Persaud; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; statistical modelling; gas distribution mapping; mobile robots; gas sensors; kernel density estimation; Gaussian kernel; Datavetenskap; Computer Science;

    Abstract : In this dissertation, we present and evaluate algorithms for statistical gas distribution modelling in mobile robot applications. We derive a representation of the gas distribution in natural environments using gas measurements collected with mobile robots. READ MORE
