  1. 6. On retinoid receptors, Nurr1 and related transcription factors in the CNS

    Author : Rolf H Zetterström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Nurr1; NGFI-B; Nor1; RAR; RXR; CRBP; CRABP; substantia nigra; basal ganglia; dopamine; orphan receptor; vitamin A; retinoic acid; transcription factor;

    Abstract : It has long been known that retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are required for normal development and growth; in excess however metabolites such as all-trans retinoic acid are potent teratogens. Retinoids exert their effects through transcription factors known as the retinoic acid receptors (RARam -ß and -y) and retinoid X receptors (RXRa, -ß and -y). READ MORE

  2. 7. Regulation of HIV-1 provirus transcription

    Author : Mojgan H Naghavi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Key words- HIV-1; LTR; transcription; subtypes; phylogenetic analysis; NFkappaB; USF; MCEF; HMG-1 DSP1; Dorsal.;

    Abstract : Transcription of the HIV-genome is regulated by the interaction of viral long terminal repeat (LTR) cis-acting sequences with a complex of viral regulatory proteins and cellular transcription factors. The complex interplay between the cellular-, and/or viral proteins and LTR of different subtypes may play a role in the control of HIV-1 latency versus activation. READ MORE

  3. 8. The relationship between overweight and depression in view of genes, environment and their joint influence

    Author : Sofia H. Kanders; Cecilia Åslund; Kent W. Nilsson; Dan Larhammar; Nancy Pedersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : depression; overweight; obesity; plasticity; pharmacogenetics; genetics; antidepressants; breastfeeding; bullying; depression; övervikt; obesitas; plasticitet; farmakogenetik; genetik; antidepressiva läkemedel; mobbning; amning; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Obesity and depression are known to often go hand in hand, but is this due to our genetic heritage, environmental factors or a combination thereof? With a neuroscientific approach, I have investigated the relationship between obesity and depression with the aim of bridging the different levels of research available in order to better understand this complex topic. Using data from a longitudinal cohort with adults, we analysed the genetic contribution to antidepressant response in Study I. 4. 9. Discovery and validation of podocalyxin-like protein as a prognostic biomarker in colorectal cancer

    Author : Anna H Larsson; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide with more than 700,000 deaths every year. Prognosis mostly depends on disease stage at diagnosis, however, outcome may vary considerably even within the same stage. READ MORE

    Abstract : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most frequently diagnosed type of acute leukemia in adults. It commonly affects people aged 60 or older, as incidence increases with age, and it is characterized by the accumulation of immature hematopoietic progenitor cells in the bone marrow. READ MORE
