  1. 1. Structural Studies of Echinococcus granulosus Fatty-acid-binding Protein 1 and Human Semicarbazide-sensitive Amine Oxidase

    Author : Emma Jakobsson; Gerard Kleywegt; Andrea Mattevi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase; vascular adhesion protein-1; copper-containing amine oxidase; fatty-acid-binding protein; Echinococcus granulosus; crystal structure; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The parasite Echinococcus granulosus causes hydatid disease, a major zoonosis. A fatty-acid-binding protein, EgFABP1, is important for the parasite, as it must acquire almost all its lipids from its environment or the host. The structure of EgFABP1 has been solved and refined to 1.6 Å resolution. READ MORE

  2. 2. Placental LPL and glucose metabolism in complicated pregnancies

    Author : AnneLiese Magnusson-Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : placenta; intrauterine growth restriction; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus; lipoprotein lipase; fatty acids; fatty acid binding proteins; cytotrophoblasts;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) or diabetes are associated with alterations in both lipid and glucose metabolism, which may lead to long lasting metabolic disturbances in the fetus and susceptibility for developing metabolic syndrome in postnatal life. Glucose is the major energy source for both the fetus and placenta. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry for Determination of Noncovalent Interactions in Drug Discovery

    Author : Kurt Benkestock; Johan Roeraade; Renato Zenobi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; electrospray ionization; drug discovery; noncovalent interaction; complexes; human serum albumin HSA ; fatty acid binding protein FABP ; ribonuclease; ligand screening; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Noncovalent interactions are involved in many biological processes in which biomolecules bind specifically and reversibly to a partner. Often, proteins do not have a biological activity without the presence of a partner, a ligand. READ MORE

  4. 4. Protein folding variants, for better or for worse? The lesson learned from HAMLET

    Author : Malin Svensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical biology; prion; apo; fatty acid; apoptosis; lactalbumin; folding variant; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : By varying its secondary or tertiary structure a single protein can attain new biological functions. The amyloid forming proteins are the best known examples where a change in conformation leads to the formation of amyloid fibrils that accumulate in tissues and cause disease. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies on the assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B containing lipoproteins

    Author : Karin Lindberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : apolipoprotein B; lipoprotein; lipoprotein biosynthesis; Brefeldin A; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; liver fatty acid binding protein;

    Abstract : Lipoproteins are water-soluble particles of lipids and proteins, which deliver water-insoluble lipids from intestine or liver to target tissues where the lipids are used as fuel or storage. Lipoproteins consist of a core of hydrophobic lipids surrounded by an amphipatic monolayer of polar lipids and specific proteins, apolipoproteins. READ MORE
