  1. 16. Nutrition in the second year of life. Effects of different milk compositions on dietary intakes, growth and metabolism

    Author : Johan Svahn; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein intake; nitrogen; iron fortification; iron intake; growth; fatty acids; fat metabolism; fat intake; energy intake; dietary intake; blood lipids; cow´s milk; cholesterol; Amino acids; children; protein metabolism.; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Abstract : In the diet for young children, whole cow´s milk is the major contributor of calories, protein and saturated fat, but it supplies little iron and polyunsaturated fat. Although several recommendations exist for the composition of formula, recommendations for the composition of milk for young children are lacking. READ MORE

  2. 17. Structural Studies of a Xyloglucan Endotransglycosylase from Populus tremula x tremuloides and Three Conserved Hypothetical Proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis

    Author : Patrik Johansson; Alwyn Jones; Sherry Mowbray; Pedro Alzari; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell and molecular biology; xyloglucan endotransglycosylase; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; epoxide hydrolase; fatty acid metabolism; fatty acid oxidation; crystallography; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the structural studies of four different proteins from two organisms. Xyloglucan endotransglycosylases, XETs, are involved in plant cell wall expansion and remodeling by splitting and reconnecting xyloglucan-cellulose crosslinks. The first crystal structure of a XET enzyme has been determined to 1.8 Å. READ MORE

  4. 19. Placental LPL and glucose metabolism in complicated pregnancies

    Author : AnneLiese Magnusson-Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : placenta; intrauterine growth restriction; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus; lipoprotein lipase; fatty acids; fatty acid binding proteins; cytotrophoblasts;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) or diabetes are associated with alterations in both lipid and glucose metabolism, which may lead to long lasting metabolic disturbances in the fetus and susceptibility for developing metabolic syndrome in postnatal life. Glucose is the major energy source for both the fetus and placenta. READ MORE

  5. 20. Perinatal essential fatty acid deficiency in mice: effects on metabolism and behaviour

    Author : Vilborg Palsdottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : essential fatty acids; perinatal period; maternal diet; diet-induced obesity; insulin resistance; lipids; behaviour;

    Abstract : Maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and lactation influences the health of the adult offspring and an adequate supply of essential fatty acids is important for foetal and postnatal growth and development. The overall aim of this thesis was to study short- and long-term effects of perinatal essential fatty acid deficiency in mice on metabolism and behaviour. READ MORE
