1. Thermodynamic Studies of the Fe-Pt System and “FeO”-Containing Slags for Application Towards Ladle Refining
Abstract : In the present work, the thermodynamic activites of ironoxide, denoted as "FeO" in the slag systems Al2O3-"FeO", CaO-"FeO", "FeO"-SiO2, Al2O3-"FeO"-SiO2, CaO-"FeO"-SiO2and "FeO"-MgO-SiO2were investigated by employing the gasequilibration technique at steelmaking temperatures. Thestrategy was to expose the molten slag mixtures kept inplatinum crucibles for an oxygen potential, determined by aCO/CO2-ratio. READ MORE

2. Synchrotron-based In Situ Electron Spectroscopy Applied to Oxide Formation and Catalysis
Abstract : In this thesis, in situ ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to address chemical reactions on surfaces. The presented work aims at the investigation of the relation between pressure and adsorbate surface structures during catalytic reactions. READ MORE

3. Recovery of iron and manganese values from metallurgical slags by the oxidation route
Abstract : In the modern practice, a sustainable development strategy in a domain of wasteutilization is shifting its focus from a general completeness of recycling to a morespecific attention to efficiently utilize elements in the wastes. This is well-illustrated bythe steelmaking slag industries. READ MORE

4. Surface structure and catalytic activity of Pd and Fe oxide surfaces and thin films
Abstract : The present work is devoted to atomic scale structural studies of the surfaces of model heterogeneous catalysts relevant to oxidation reactions. A novel approach using high-energy surface X-ray diffraction combined with mass-spectrometry measurements is employed to perform in situ structural characterization of Pd(100) and Pd(553) single crystal surfaces acting as catalysts in the process of CO oxidation under semirealistic conditions. 5. Thermodynamic study of the FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system : Data assessment and phase diagram calculation
Abstract : This dissertation consists of assessed thermodynamic properties for phases in the geologically and industrially important system Fe-Mg-Al-Si-O and calculated phase diagrams. Mathematical processing of different kinds of experimental data (phase equilibrium data, calorimetric, volumetric, thermophysical, electrochemical, activity data) is used to derive internally consistent thermodynamic database.
