  1. 1. Erasing Fear Effect of Disrupting Fear Memory Reconsolidation on Central and Peripheral Nervous System Activity

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Thomas Ågren; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Memory reconsolidation; fear conditioning; serotonin; dopamine; polymorphism; gene; exposure therapy; fMRI; amygdala;

    Abstract : Fear memories, here defined as learned associations between a stimulus and a physiological fear reaction, are formed through fear conditioning. In animals, fear memories, present in the lateral amygdala, undergo reconsolidation after recall. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Amygdala, Fear and Reconsolidation Neural and Behavioral Effects of Retrieval-Extinction in Fear Conditioning and Spider Phobia

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Johannes Björkstrand; Uppsala universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Fear conditioning; phobia; memory reconsolidation; retrieval-extinction; exposure therapy; amygdala; fMRI; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : The amygdala is crucially involved in the acquisition and retention of fear memories. Experimental research on fear conditioning has shown that memory retrieval shortly followed by pharmacological manipulations or extinction, thereby interfering with memory reconsolidation, decreases later fear expression. 3. 3. Imaging fear and anxiety in the human brain : Positron emission tomographic studies

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Håkan Fischer; Uppsala universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; fear; anxiety; panic; conditioning; human; brain; neuroimaging; positron emissiontomography; PET; Psykologi; SOCIAL SCIENCES Social sciences Psychology; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Socialvetenskap Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Fear and anxiety are central human experiences. However, the relation between aspects of these aversive emotional states and brain function have previously been studied mostly in animals. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wake and be fine? : The effect of sleep on emotional memory

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Per Davidson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sleep; Emotional memory; Fear conditioning; Fear Generalization; Think No-Think; Memory Suppression;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to examine the effect of sleep on emotional memories. The first two studies examined the role of sleep in the generalization of fear learning and the third study examined how sleep affected the forgetting of unwanted emotional memories. READ MORE

  5. 5. Inflammation and Cell Profileration Following Perinatal Brain Injury

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Katarina Järlestedt; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypoxia-ischemia; immature brain; reactive gliosis; complement system; C3a; fear conditioning; lipopolysaccharide; inflammation;

    Abstract : Inflammation plays an important role in cerebral ischemic injury in the immature brain. The aim of the thesis was to investigate (1) the role of astrocyte activation and reactive gliosis in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury, (2) the role of complement derived peptide C3a in neonatal HI brain injury, (3) the effect of neonatal HI brain injury on fear learning and behaviour, (4) the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced systemic inflammation on cell proliferation in the developing brain.
