  1. 16. The role of aversive learning in social interactions

    Author : Tanaz Molapour; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : It could be argued that our survival as humans hinges on our ability to interact socially with others. Our social interactions are influenced by evaluations of each other: we cooperate with those we like and avoid or are aggressive towards those we dislike or are afraid of. READ MORE

  2. 17. Brain Emotional Learning-Inspired Models

    Author : Mahboobeh Parsapoor; Bertil Svensson; Urban Bilstrup; Christian Balkenius; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis the mammalian nervous system and mammalian brain have been used as inspiration to develop a computational intelligence model based on the neural structure of fear conditioning and to extend the structure of the previous proposed amygdala-orbitofrontal model. The proposed model can be seen as a framework for developing general computational intelligence based on the emotional system instead of traditional models on the rational system of the human brain. 3. 18. Influence of serotonin on anxiety-like behavior in rat

    Author : Robert Pettersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anxiety; Serotonin; SSRI;

    Abstract : It is well-established that serotonin is involved in the regulation of mood and behaviour, partly implied by the therapeutic effect of prolonged treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) on mood and anxiety disorders. However, the mechanisms behind the paradoxical exacerbation of anxiety described during initial treatment, as well as behind the therapeutic effects of prolonged treatment with SSRIs, remain poorly understood. 4. 19. On neuroinflammation in psychotic disorders

    Author : Carl Sellgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neuroinflammation has been implicated in several psychiatric conditions. Based on experimental studies, the glia-derived tryptophan metabolite kynurenic acid (KYNA) may be especially relevant for positive psychotic symptoms and impaired executive functioning. READ MORE

  5. 20. Platelet monoamine oxidase : From genetic regulation to behavior

    Author : Håkan Garpenstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; monoamine oxidase; platelet; personality; CNS; serotonin; dopamine; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of personality and vulnerability forpsychiatric disorders. The activity of monoamine oxidase in platelets (trbc-MAO), which is mainlygenetically determined, correlates to personality traits such as sensation-seeking and impulsiveness, andlow trbc-MAO activity is more common in patients with type 2 alcoholism.
