  1. 1. Probing Control : Analysis and Design with Application to Fed-Batch Bioreactors

    Author : Stéphane Velut; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Electronics and Electrical technology; Large scale fermentations; Extremum control; Feeding strategy; Probing control; Fed-batch bioreactors; Automation; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik;

    Abstract : In most control problems the objective is to control the output at a desired value in spite of disturbances. In some cases, the best setpoint is not known a priori and it should be found online to optimize the process performance. This thesis examines a probing strategy that can be applied for this class of problems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Feeding Strategies Based on Probing Control for E. coli and V. cholerae Cultivations

    Author : Lena de Maré; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik; Automation; Temperature; Mid-ranging control; Amino acid; Complex media; Fed-batch bioreactors; Probing control; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Parameter estimation; Feeding strategies;

    Abstract : The recombinant DNA techniques have made it possible to produce many different proteins for a wide range of applications. The vector encoding for the recombinant protein is often inserted in the bacterium E. coli as it is a well studied and a well-known organism. To achieve a high productivity, it is important to reach a high cell density. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ethanol from Lignocellulose: Physiological Effects of Inhibitors and Fermentation Strategies

    Author : Mohammad Taherzadeh Esfahani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fermentation; dilute-acid hydrolyzate; ethanol; hydroxymethyl furfural; furfural; acetic acid; lignocellulose; fed-batch; yeast; pantothenate; control; inhibition; HMF;

    Abstract : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). READ MORE

  4. 4. Extremum-Seeking Control of Industrial-Scale Fermentation Processes

    Author : Ola Johnsson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The work presented here is based on two papers, both pertaining to perturbation-based control strategies in industrial fed-batch fermentation processes. The first paper describes a new control strategy for avoiding overflow metabolism in the exponential growth phase of a fermentation, based on analysis of the frequency spectrum of the dissolved oxygen measurement following a periodic perturbation in the feed rate.
