  1. 1. Interacting Dirac Matter

    Author : Saikat Banerjee; Alexander V. Balatsky; Jens Paaske; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dirac; superconductor; magnon; interaction; Fermi liquid theory; renormalization; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The discovery of graphene in 2004 has led to a surge of activities focused on the theoretical and experimental studies of materials hosting linearly dispersive quasiparticles during the last decade. Rapid expansion in the list of materials having similar properties to graphene has led to the emergence of a new class of materials known as the Dirac materials. READ MORE

  2. 2. One-dimensional theory of the quantum Hall system

    Author : Emil Johansson Bergholtz; Anders Karlhede; Nicholas Read; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fractional quantum Hall effect; thin torus; spin chains; conformal field theory; strong correlations; non-abelian states; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : The quantum Hall (QH) system---cold electrons in two dimensions in a perpendicular magnetic field---is a striking example of a system where unexpected phenomena emerge at low energies. The low-energy physics of this system is effectively one-dimensional due to the magnetic field. READ MORE

  3. 3. Many-body Problems in the Theory of Stellar Collapse and Neutron Stars

    Author : Emma Olsson; Bengt Gustafsson; Christopher Pethick; Bengt Friman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; neutron stars; core-collapse supernovae; response functions; Fermi liquids; nuclear matter; neutrino interactions; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Abstract : When modelling the collapse of massive stars leading to supernova explosions and the cooling of neutron stars, understanding the microphysical processes, such as the interaction of neutrinos within a dense medium are of vital importance. The interaction of neutrinos with nucleons (neutrons and protons) is altered by the presence of the medium, compared to the same process with free nucleons. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electron Transport and Collective Modes in Fermi and non-Fermi Liquids

    Author : Eric Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Today’s novel materials can display many interesting phases. Two-dimensional materials with strong electron-electron interactions allow the electrons to enter a hydrodynamic regime at intermediate temperatures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and Simulation of Electro-catalysts for Green Energy : From Solvated Complexes to Solid-Liquid Interfaces

    Author : Jose Luis Lima de Jesus Silva; Moyses Araujo; Mårten Ahlquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Catalysis; Hydrogen Evolution Reaction; Hybrid Structures; Ruthenium Complexes; XPS; OER; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I have worked with solid-liquid interfaces, adsorbed molecules on the surface, and solvated complexes using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to find possible signatures that could help design suitable energy materials. More specifically, I have explored hybrid electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), XPS fingerprints of gas-phase melamine (monomer, dimer, trimer, and hexagonal packed arrangement), hexagonally packed melamine adsorbed on the Au(111) surface, and high-valence Ruthenium complexes along a reaction pathway in aqueous solution through a joint theory-experiment approach.
