  2. 2. Very preterm birth and fetal growth restriction in adolescence - Cardiovascular and renal aspects

    Author : Jonas Liefke; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preterm and low birth weight; Fetal growth restriction; Magnetic resonance imaging MRI ; Cardiac function; Preterm birth; Adolescence; Kidney function; Kidney anatomy histology; Cardiovascular biomarkers; Arterial stiffness; Ambulatory blood pressure measurement; Biochemical makers;

    Abstract : This thesis applied magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate to what extent very preterm birth due to early onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) impacts the cardiovascular system and kidneys in adolescence. The thesis further investigated whether FGR exacerbates the organ-specific effects of very preterm birth. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life

    Author : Helena Gardiner; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; Obstetrics; gynaecology; arterial distensibility; twin-twin transfusion; Growth-restriction; Fetal; Cardiovascular Development; andrologi;

    Abstract : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 4. 4. Development in children born very preterm after intrauterine growth restriction with abnormal fetal blood flow

    Author : Eva Morsing; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; umbilical artery; cognitive development; lung function; cardiovascular function; very preterm infants; Doppler ultrasound; Intrauterine growth restriction;

    Abstract : Delivery of fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) with abnormal umbilical artery blood flow in the second trimester represents a clinical dilemma. So far, no evidence based management protocols are available adressing when to deliver these fetuses. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction

    Author : Martin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; placenta; Na K ATPase; Na H exchanger; H K ATPase; intrauterine growth restriction; BeWo cells; epithelial transport;

    Abstract : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. READ MORE
