  1. 1. Distributions Of Fiber Characteristics As A Tool To Evaluate Mechanical Pulps

    Author : Sofia Reyier Österling; Per Engstrand; Hans Höglund; Olof Ferritsius; Rita Ferritsius; Hans Ersson; Per Gradin; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber; fibre; fiber characteristics; fiber dimension; fiber properties; mechanical pulp; FiberLab; raw data; distribution; fiber wall thickness; BIN; bonding ability influence; bonding indicator; bonding ability; fiber width; fibrillation; collapse resistance; laboratory sheet; fiber analyzer; optical analyzer; TMP; CTMP; SGW; sheet model; prediction; fiber characterization; hydrocyclone; fractionation; kernel density estimation; KDE; diffusion mixing; acoustic emission; F0.90; Norway spruce; Picea abies;

    Abstract : Mechanical pulps are used in paper products such as magazine or news grade printing papers or paperboard. Mechanical pulping gives a high yield; nearly everything in the tree except the bark is used in the paper. This means that mechanical pulping consumes much less wood than chemical pulping, especially to produce a unit area of printing surface. READ MORE

  3. 3. The cell wall ultrastructure of wood fibres : effects of the chemical pulp fibre line

    Author : Jesper Fahlén; Ulf W. Gedde; Drek G. Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; atomic force microscopy; cellulose; cell wall; drying; fiber; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Knowledge of the ultrastructural arrangement within wood fibres is important for understanding the mechanical properties of the fibres themselves, as well as for understanding and controlling the ultrastructural changes that occur during pulp processing. The object of this work was to explore the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM) in studies of the cell wall ultrastructure and to see how this structure is affected in the kraft pulp fibre line. 4. 4. Characterization of elastic moduli of single fibres

    Author : Shanghong Duan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AFM; Nanoindentation; Shear modulus; Transverse modulus; Carbon fibre;

    Abstract : The carbon fibre is one of most promising materials for high-performance composites since it is lightweight and strong. It has been widely used to build carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. The carbon fibre dramatically reinforces the composite in the fibre direction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Closed-loop strategy for valorization of starch : From starch to functionalized starch biomaterials and bioplastics

    Author : Duo Wu; Minna Hakkarainen; Elisabetta Ranucci; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Starch; Nano-graphene oxide; Microwave; Valorization; Scaffold; Biomineralization; Bioplastics; Compatibilizer; Plasticizer; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The desire to utilize renewable resources and avoid wastes drives us to develop new concepts for material design. Non-edible starch feedstocks and starch bioplastic wastes were previously considered useless. READ MORE
