  1. 1. Simulations of the Dynamics of Fibre Suspension Flows

    Author : Stefan B Lindström; Tetsu Uesaka; Myat Htun; Fritz Bark; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fibre; fibre suspension; simulation; paper; papermaking; forming; fibre orientation distribution; fibre flexibility; viscosity; first normal stress difference; fluid flow; simple shear flow; two-way coupling; three-dimensional; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : A new model for simulating non-Brownian flexible fibres suspended in a Newtonian fluid has been developed. Special attention has been given to include realistic flow conditions found in the industrial papermaking process in the key features of the model; it is the intention of the author to employ the model in simulations of the forming section of the paper machine in future studies. 2. 2. Fibre flow mechanisms

    Author : Roger Bergström; Ulf Björkman; Bo Norman; Mark Martinez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fibre flow; floc; shear; compression; fibre network; stress chain; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The flow behaviour, and primarily the floc-floc interaction, of pulp paper suspensions have been studied visually. Analogy models based on these observations have been developed as well as the identification of important parameters of floc break-up in low shear rate flow fields. READ MORE

  4. 4. Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures

    Author : Jessica Strömbro; Peter Gudmundson; Per Gradin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Length-scale effects; Strain gradient; Moisture change; Humidity change; Network model; Fibre model; Mathematical model; Polymer; Micro-indentation; Particle composite; Interfacial debonding; Matrix cracking; Paper; Mechano-sorptive creep; Accelerated creep; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Network Model Applied to Cellulose Fibre Materials

    Author : Susanne Heyden; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Network mechanics; Fibre network; Cellulose fibres; Fracture; Stiffness; Computer simulation;

    Abstract : A network mechanics model for analysis of materials made of dry-shaped cellulose fibres is proposed. In terms of the model, the network is composed of fibres of arbitrary distribution in length, curvature, cross-section. stiffness and strength. The fibres are arranged in a random structure according to an arbitrary orientation distribution. READ MORE
