  1. 11. Flow and Mixing of Pulp Suspensions

    Author : Johan Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flow behaviour; boundary-layer; Medium Consistency MC ; mixing; yield stress; suspension; pulp; Laser Doppler Anemometry LDA ; turbulence; fibre;

    Abstract : When producing pulp and paper, pulp suspensions are treated in a number of unit operations at medium consistency (MC) concentrations (3-15% by weight). Pulp suspensions at these concentrations behave as solids at low shear rates, but at sufficiently high shear rates they start to flow and can even be made to act as water. READ MORE

  2. 12. Fibre Orientation Modelling Applied to Contracting Flows Related to Papermaking

    Author : Marko Hyensjö; Anders Dahlkild; Markku Kataja; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fokker-Planck; fibre orientation; shear flow; fibre suspension; planar contraction; headbox; turbulent flow; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The main goal of this work was to develop numerical models for studying the behaviour of fibres in an accelerated flow. This is of special interest for e.g. papermaking. READ MORE

  3. 13. Fibre network strength and structure : a theoretical and experimental study

    Author : Johan Ringnér; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fibre network; fibre suspension; FEM; network strength; beams; finite element; medium consistency; computed tomography; x-ray;

  4. 14. Viscous Behaviour of Fibre-filled Liquids

    Author : Mina Djalili-Moghaddam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; viscosity; geometry effects; short-range interactions; parallel plate; fibre suspension; normal force; cone and plate;

    Abstract : Process simulation of discontinuous fibre composites is of importance in automotive industries. The performance of a fibre composite part depends to a great extent on the fibre orientation pattern. READ MORE

  5. 15. Network Disruption and Turbulence in Fibre Suspensions

    Author : Sven Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition; friction; refractive index matching; Laser Doppler Anemometry LDA ; boundary-layer; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; medium consistency MC ; network strength; fluidisation; pulp; suspension; fibres;

    Abstract : The production of paper pulp involves the handling of large quantities of fibre suspensions. Today's call for energy efficiency and environmentally sound processes has led to the development of MC (Medium Consistency) technology. READ MORE
