  1. 1. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Author : Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 2. 2. Regulation of Fibroblast Activity by Keratinocytes

    Author : Daniel Nowinski; Mikael Ivarsson; Bengt Gerdin; Elof Ph D M.D. Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; conective tissue growth factor; interleukin-1; fibroblast; keratinocyte; wound healing; burns; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : In the healing of cutaneous wounds, paracrine communication between keratinocytes and fibroblasts regulates cell differentiation, proliferation and synthesis of extracellular matrix. Deficient epidermal coverage, as seen in burn-wounds, frequently results in hypertrophic scars. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fibroblast growth factor-8 regulation of breast cancer cell growth

    Author : Emeli Nilsson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Expression of fibroblast growth factor-8 (FGF-8) is increased in a large number of breast cancers. In in vitro and in vivo breast cancer models FGF-8 promotes growth, invasion and angiogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling

    Author : Nadja Jastrebova; Dorothe Spillmann; Ulf Lindahl; John T. Gallagher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; heparan sulfate; oligosaccharide; fibroblast growth factor; fibroblast growth factor signaling; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge.
