  1. 1. Towards simulating fully charged protein-DNA systems in water : Zif268-DNA as a test case

    Author : Git Roxström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Molecular Dynamics simulation; Zif268; zinc fingers; GROMOS; linkers; recognition sites; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we develop a computing strategy to simulate fully charged protein-DNA systems with a general force field (GROMOS87). The ions neutralizing the phosphates (P-ions) are submitted to global symmetry constraints. A model exhibiting ionic-atmosphere effects on mobile P-ions was implemented via very weak restraint forces. READ MORE

  2. 2. Risk of hearing loss from combined exposure to hand-arm vibrations and noise

    Author : Hans Pettersson; Lage Burström; Tohr Nilsson; Kerstin Persson Waye; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hearing loss; noise; hand-arm vibration; combined exposure; vibration induced white fingers; Raynaud s phenomenon; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Hearing loss from noise exposure is one of the most common occupational injuries, and exposure to vibrations may increase the risk of noise-induced hearing loss. Earlier cross-sectional and longitudinal studies found an increased risk of noise-induced hearing loss among workers with vibration-induced white fingers (VWF) symptoms compared to workers without such symptoms. 3. 3. Modelling biomolecular interactions

    Author : Johan Bredenberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Computational chemistry; molecular dynamics; nuclear receptors; force field parameterization; zinc fingers; DNA; proteins.;

    Abstract : Computational approaches for understanding and aiding in molecular biology has increased in significance over the last decades, where a wealth of biochemical experiments have provided a solid ground for developing computer models that can be used to predict unresolved issues within biology. Molecular dynamics (MD) is one of these methods, based on classical laws, and suitable for handling large macromolecules in their natural environment, water. READ MORE

  4. 4. Finger Design Automation for Industrial Robots : A Generic and Agile Approach

    Author : Mohammadali Honarpardaz; Johan Ölvander; Mehdi Tarkian; Xiaolong Feng; Fredrik Elgh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : ROBOT fingers play a crucial role in the success and performance of workcells, as fingers are the only interfaces that connect the robot to the physical working environment. Fingers are responsible for grasping and manipulating workpieces without dropping or damaging them. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural and Functional Studies of the Wilms' Tumour 1 Protein (WT1) in Interaction with Nucleic acids

    Author : Raymond Yengo Kimbung; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; WT1; Zinc finger; Structure; Transcription factor;

    Abstract : The WT1 protein, a product of the Wilms’ tumour 1 gene (WT1) is a zinc finger transcription factor implicated in a number of cellular processes particularly involved in the development of the urogenital system. Mutations in this gene have been implicated in abnormal development of the urogenital system resulting in syndromes such as the Denys-Drash, WAGR and Frasier and in the childhood kidney malignancy, Wilms’ tumour.
