  1. 1. Finite Element Modeling of the Human Head

    Author : Svein Kleiven; KTH; []
    Keywords : Finite element method FEM ; Human head; brain; head injury; epidemiology; statistics; simulations.;

    Abstract : The main objectives of the present thesis were to define the dimension of head injuries in Sweden over a longer period and to present a Finite Element (FE) model of the human head which can be used for preventive strategies in the future. The annual incidence of head injuries in Sweden between 1987 and 2000 was defined at over 22 000, cases most of which were mild head injuries. READ MORE

  2. 2. Finite Element Modeling of Contact Problems

    Author : Asim Rashid; Peter Hansbo; Niclas Strömberg; Anders Klarbring; Anders Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Contact is the principal way load is transferred to a body. The study of stresses and deformations arising due to contact interaction of solid bodies is thus of paramount importance in many engineering applications. In this work, problems involving contact interactions are investigated using finite element modeling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microstructural finite element modeling of metals

    Author : Mikael Nygårds; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The mechanical properties of metals have been investigated.This has been done by creating micromechanical models based onthe microstructural data available for the materials ofinterest. Thus, models containing a grain structure withappropriate constitutive equations have been created. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling of coupled thermoplasticity at finite strains

    Author : Paul Håkansson; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mechanical engineering; hydraulics; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; Heat generation; Phase transformation; Void growth; Thermoplasticity; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Crystal plasticity; Finite element;

    Abstract : In this thesis, models for simulation of inelastic phenomena, such as plastic anisotropy, texture evolution, void growth and phase transformation are presented. Special emphasized is put on the modeling of heat generation due to plastic work. All models are formulated within a thermodynamic framework that allows large deformations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Response of cable-stayed and suspension bridges to moving vehicles : Analysis methods and practical modeling techniques

    Author : Raid Karoumi; KTH; []
    Keywords : cable-stayed bridge; suspension bridge; Great Belt suspension bridge; bridge moving loads; traffic-induced vibrations bridge-vehicle interaction; dynamic analysis; cable element; finite element analysis; finite diffrence method; tuned mass damper; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a state-of-the-art-review and twodifferent approaches for solving the moving load problem ofcable-stayed and suspension bridges. The first approach uses a simplified analysis method tostudy the dynamic response of simple cable-stayed bridgemodels. READ MORE
