  1. 21. Exploring effective descriptions of gauge fields and strings : A Lagrangian approach with insights from color-kinematics duality

    Author : Lucia M. Garozzo; Henrik Johansson; Chris White; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scattering amplitudes; double copy; gauge theory; string theory; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : The concept of a color-kinematics duality is an important driving force in advancing the modern understanding of scattering amplitudes, in both field theory and string theory. Yet, open questions remain that motivate the need for a deeper understanding of the duality. READ MORE

  2. 22. Hot and Dense Gauge Theories with External Fields

    Author : David Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the introductory part of this thesis, I briefly review quantum statistichal mechanics; quantum field theory with external fields; the real and imaginary time formalisms in thermal field theory; and the hard thermal loop resummation. In the second part, consisting of here reprinted research articles, we apply this to quantum electrodynamics and quantum chromodynamics with a background (chromo-) magnetic field in the presence of a heat and charge reservoir. 3. 23. Wave Propagation in Structural Elements - Direct and Inverse Problems in the Time Domain

    Author : Peter Folkow; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; integro-differential equations; non-uniform beams; wave splitting; wave propagator; finite difference; Timoshenko beam; imbedding; Mindlin plate; inverse problem; viscoelastic damping; nonlinear rod; transient wave propagation; Green function;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is direct and inverse wave propagation problems in structural elements. The considered structures are beams, plates and rods. The models for the beams and the plates are based on linear theory, while the rods are assumed to be nonlinear. The greater part of the work concerns the Timoshenko beam. READ MORE

  4. 24. Developments in Ground Heat Storage Modeling

    Author : Alberto Lazzarotto; Björk Folke; Michel Bernier; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Borehole fields; g-functions; network; inclined; integrated design; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Ground heat storage systems can play an important role for the reduction of green house gases emissions by increasing the exploitation of renewable energy sources and “waste heat” with a consequent diminution of the use of fossil fuels.A ground heat storage consists in an array of vertical boreholes placed in such a way that promotes the mutual thermal interaction between the ground heat exchangers creating the necessary conditions required to effectively store and retrieve heat. 5. 25. On the Modelling of Fracture Using Strong Discontinuities

    Author : Martin Fagerström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fracture; strong discontinuity; material forces; finite deformations; FEM;

    Abstract : The major concern of this work is the constitutive and numerical modelling of fracture,based on strong discontinuity formulations. More particularly, an extended finiteelement approach is used, where the total displacement is separated in two mutuallyindependent fields, representing the continuous and discontinuous displacement respectively.
