  1. 1. Fire safety evaluation of multifunctional buildings - Special emphasis on antagonistic attacks and protection of sensitive areas

    Author : Martin Nilsson; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multifunctional building; multipurpose building; antagonism; terrorism; design fire; fire scenario; sensitive areas; electrical appliances room; fire protection; hypoxic air venting; reduced oxygen; fire growth; building code; fire safety engineering;

    Abstract : Multifunctional buildings, often hosting societal important functions, have become increasingly more common during the last years. The combination of many functions within the same building as well as an increased exposure to antagonistic attacks create new, not previously well analyzed problems for fire safety. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Development of a European Fire Classification System for Building Products - Test Methods and Mathematical Modelling

    Author : Björn Sundström; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik; Teknik; Technological sciences; Brandteknik; Fire Protection Engineering; Conflame; Cone Tools; FDS; CFD; Duhamel?s integral; Fire Growth Rate; FIGRA; Euroclass; SBI; Single Burning Item; Cone Calorimeter; Room Corner Test; fire modelling; Reaction to fire; flashover;

    Abstract : The fire technical properties of products are determining factors for the initiation and growth of fires. Measurement of fire technical properties and the understanding of how they relate to real hazards are therefore important for fire safety. READ MORE

  3. 3. Safety in Case of Fire - The Effect of Changing Regulations

    Author : Johan Lundin; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Technological sciences; verification; risk analysis; uncertainty; prescriptive; risk control; building regulation; Performance-based; fire safety engineering; Teknik; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In this doctoral thesis some fundamental problems concerning society's ability to control the safety in buildings in the case of fire by issuing performance-based building regulations are identified and analysed. Fire protection documentation from forty-six projects was studied, together with a detailed analysis of the Swedish building regulations and an extensive risk analysis of a class of buildings. 4. 4. Experimental measurements of water mist systems and implications for modelling in CFD

    Author : Bjarne Husted; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknik; Technological sciences; fire suppression; CFD; FDS; fire safety engineering; PDA; water mist; PIV;

    Abstract : The use of water mist for fire extinguishment has increased rapidly in recent years. The main reason is the abandonment of halon-based extinguishing systems in favour of environmentally friendlier systems. Furthermore the use of water mist systems has spread from mainly marine applications to also include the protection of buildings. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation and Mitigation of Industrial Fire Hazards

    Author : Petra Andersson; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknik; Technological sciences; Effect of fires; Accidental release; Water mist; Halon replacement; Industrial Fire Hazards; Human burns; Smoke detektion;

    Abstract : A tool suitable for conducting industrial fire and explosion hazard analysis is presented, together with an identification of weak links in the hazard evaluation chain. For some of the weak links additional research has been carried out. READ MORE
