  1. 16. The rolling resistances of roller skis and their effects on human performance during treadmill roller skiing

    Author : Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Per Tesch; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood lactate; cycle length; cycle rate; heart rate; oxygen uptake; performance; power; roller skis; rolling resistance; ratings of perceived exertion; work economy; Sports; Idrott;

    Abstract : Modern ski-treadmills allow cross-country skiers, biathletes and ski-orienteers to test their physical performance in a laboratory environment using classical and freestyle techniques on roller skis. For elite athletes the differences in performance between test occasions are quite small, thus emphasising the importance of knowing the roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficient, µR, in order to allow correct comparisons between the results, as well as providing the opportunity to study work economy between different athletes, test occasions and core techniques. 2. 17. The physiological impact of soccer on elite female players and the effects of active recovery training

    Author : Helena M. Andersson; Fawzi Kadi; Carl Johan Sundberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Football; Training; Recovery; Intermittent exercise; Sports; Idrott; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; Fysiologi; Physiology; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science;

    Abstract : Female soccer is becoming more popular and professional in the world. There are, however, limited scientific data available on how elite female players respond to physical stress during soccer games. An effective recovery strategy following a game is important, because there are few recovery days between the games in international tournaments. READ MORE

  3. 18. Effects of exercise and amino acid intake on mechanisms regulating protein synthesis and breakdown in human muscle

    Author : Marcus Moberg; Eva Blomstrand; Hans-Christer Holmberg; Jørgen Jensen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance exercise; concurrent exericse; leucine; BCAA; mTORC1 signaling; protein synthesis; MuRF-1; PGC-1alpha; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle adapts differently to specific modes of exercise, where resistance training results in muscle growth and endurance training induces mitochondrial biogenesis. These are results of molecular events that occur after each exercise session, increasing the expression of specific genes and the rate of both synthesis and breakdown of protein. READ MORE

  4. 19. The significance of feedback de-excitation

    Author : Carsten Külheim; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; photosynthesis; feedback de-excitation; fitness; metabolomics; transcriptomics; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : During photosynthesis sunlight is absorbed by photosynthetic pigments and converted into organic compounds, such as carbohydrates. Photosynthesis needs to be highly regulated, since both too much and too little light are harmful to plant. READ MORE

  5. 20. Fish on drugs : behaviour modifying contaminants in aquatic ecosystems

    Author : Annelie Lagesson; Jonatan Klaminder; Tomas Brodin; Kathryn Arnold; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aquatic ecosystems; Behavioural effects; Ecotoxicology; Endocrine disruptors; Pharmaceuticals; Interaction effects; ekotoxikologi; Ecotoxicology;

    Abstract : Contamination of surface waters is a worldwide problem. One group of emerging contaminants that reach aquatic ecosystems via sewage treatment plant effluents and agricultural run-offs is pharmaceuticals. READ MORE
