  1. 11. Determination of Volatile Hydrocarbons in Urban Air

    Author : Lars Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; arenes; hydrocarbons; environment; alkenes; motor traffic; photochemical oxidant formation;

    Abstract : In the complex hydrocarbon mixture in urban air, the alkenes and arenes are of particular interest with respect to impact on health and environment. Knowledge of hydrocarbon concentrations in urban air is essential for the assessment and prevention of health hazards and photochemical oxidant formation. READ MORE

  2. 12. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry of polybrominated diphenyl ethers

    Author : Jonas Björklund; Jacob De Boer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to develop accurate and sensitive analytical methods for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). It focuses on the development and optimization of gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric analysis of PBDE. READ MORE

    Abstract : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. READ MORE

  4. 14. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways

    Author : Mona Lärstad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : exhaled air; exhaled breath condensate; malondialdehyde; 3-nitrotyrosine; ethane; pentane; isoprene; oxidative stress; airways; inflammation;

    Abstract : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods.
