  1. 6. Dynamics of Resistant Plasmodium falciparum Parasites

    Author : Nizar Enweji; Göte Swedberg; Anna Färnert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Persistence of drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum is a major problem to management and control malaria in endemic areas. The focus of this thesis was to study the dynamics of resistant P. falciparum parasites. READ MORE

  2. 7. Structural-acoustic analysis of wall-to-floor joints in timber-framed housing

    Author : Åsa Bolmsvik; Torbjörn Ekevid; Göran Sandberg; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustics; Akustik; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Even though a building meets the regulations with respect to impact sound, structures with wooden frames may receive complaints from the inhabitants due to structure-borne sound in the lower frequencies. In this thesis measuring methods that are more precise than the traditional measuring methods have been used to see if they could give a better knowledge about flanking transmission in the low frequencies in timber-framed structures. 3. 8. Genomic studies of expanded trinucleotide repeats : focus on neuropsychiatric disorders

    Author : Kerstin Lindblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : affective disorder; CTG18.1; DNA; ERDA1; expanded trinucleotide repeats; gene isolation; mutation; Parkinson s disease; repeat expansion detection; repeat instability; spinocerebellar ataxia;

    Abstract : In a number of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, a worsening of the disease phenotype from one generation to the next has been linked to expanded trinucleotide repeat sequences that increase in size upon transmission. The clinical phenomenon of an earlier age of onset or a more severe phenotype in later generations of a family has been termed anticipation. READ MORE

  4. 9. Genetic genealogy and epidemiology of Francisella

    Author : Kerstin Svensson; Anders Johansson; Mats Forsman; Sam R. Telford III; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; genotyping; epidemiology; GIS; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : This thesis is about analyzing genetic differences among isolates of Francisella tularensis – the tularemia-causing bacterium. To elucidate how these bacterial isolates are related, and their geographical and genetic origins, I have developed typing assays for Francisella and used them to study the epidemiology of tularemia. 5. 10. Vibrations in Lightweight Buildings - Perception and Prediction

    Author : Juan Negreira; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Psycho-vibratory evaluation; Vibrations; Timber floors; Lightweight; Measurements; Serviceability criteria; Vibration annoyance; Vibration acceptability; Elastomer; Finite element method; Prediction Tools.;

    Abstract : When the Swedish construction code (in 1994) allowed wooden multi-storey buildings to be built, this type of lightweight construction became popular due to its low cost and ease of construction, and also because wood is a plentiful resource in Sweden. Drawbacks in such buildings are disturbing vibrations and noise propagating in the construction, especially through junctions. READ MORE
