6. Cataract surgery in patients with diabetes mellitus : clinical studies
Abstract : The aim was to evaluate phacoemulsification cataract extraction with small incision and implantation of heparin-coated intraocular lens (IOL) in the capsular bag in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The aqueous flare intensity, which reflects the protein concentration in the aqueous humor, was used to evaluate blood-aqueous function in patients with DM type I and type II. READ MORE

7. Physical properties of chromospheric features : Plage, peacock jets, and calibrating it all
Abstract : The chromosphere is a complex and dynamic layer of the solar atmosphere, largely dominated by the local magnetic field configuration. It acts as an important interface between the photosphere below it and the hot corona above. However, studying this layer is not straightforward, as it is largely transparent in optical wavelengths. 8. FDG-PET in Cervical Cancer - Translational Studies
Abstract : Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in females. The treatment, based on clinical FIGO stage, carries a significant risk of side effects. FDG-PET enables non-invasive studies of glucose metabolism. Cancer cells show an increased glucose uptake and metabolism that can be visualised and further analysed. READ MORE

9. The diagnostic potential of the He I D3 spectral line in the solar atmosphere
Abstract : The research question of my PhD is in a way a simple one: what can observations of the He I D3 line teach us about the solar chromosphere? This optical spectral line at 5876 Å is generally formed in the upper chromosphere, and is sensitive to the local magnetic field. The He I D3 line is also indirectly sensitive to heating of the transition region and corona, since it is resulting from a transition that occurs between levels in the triplet system of neutral helium. 10. On cataract surgery in uveitis - management and outcome in pediatric and adult patients
Abstract : Aims: To evaluate surgical procedures and outcomes in cataract surgery in adults and children with uveitis. To compare the results of implantation of two different intraocular lenses (IOLs). Methods: Retrospective reviews of medical charts of children and adults with cataract and uveitis were performed (papers I and II). READ MORE
