  1. 1. Fibre flow mechanisms

    Author : Roger Bergström; Ulf Björkman; Bo Norman; Mark Martinez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fibre flow; floc; shear; compression; fibre network; stress chain; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The flow behaviour, and primarily the floc-floc interaction, of pulp paper suspensions have been studied visually. Analogy models based on these observations have been developed as well as the identification of important parameters of floc break-up in low shear rate flow fields. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inclusion Behaviour under a Swirl Flow in a Continuous Casting Process

    Author : Yang Ying; Pär Jönsson; Dong-Yuan Sheng; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; inclusion behaviour; swirl flow; rotating magnetic field; electromagnetic swirl flow generator; full type; half type; submerged entry no zzle; mold;

    Abstract : A swirl flow generated in a submerged entry nozzle (SEN) can effectively improve a flow pattern and heat transfer in a continuous casting process by using the methods of “swirl blade type” and “electromagnetic type”. In order to obtain a further in-depth understanding with respect to the effect of a swirl flow on a continuous casting process, the inclusion behaviour in a SEN and a mold was studied in the present work. 3. 3. The flow of pulp suspensions

    Author : Helena Fock; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp suspensions; Velocity profile; Concentration profile; Wall layer; Particle image velocimetry; Flow behaviour; Computational fluid dynamics; Ultrasound velocity profiling;

    Abstract : Large quantities of pulp suspensions are handled in the pulp and paper industry and knowledge of their flow behaviour is very important in the design and operation of process equipment. Despite this, there is still a lack of a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of the pulp suspension flow. READ MORE

  4. 4. Flow and Mixing of Pulp Suspensions

    Author : Johan Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flow behaviour; boundary-layer; Medium Consistency MC ; mixing; yield stress; suspension; pulp; Laser Doppler Anemometry LDA ; turbulence; fibre;

    Abstract : When producing pulp and paper, pulp suspensions are treated in a number of unit operations at medium consistency (MC) concentrations (3-15% by weight). Pulp suspensions at these concentrations behave as solids at low shear rates, but at sufficiently high shear rates they start to flow and can even be made to act as water. READ MORE

  5. 5. Flow and Compression of Granulated Powders : The Accuracy of Discrete Element Simulations and Assessment of Tablet Microstructure

    Author : Ann-Sofie Persson; Göran Frenning; Göran Alderborn; Marie Wahlgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Discrete Element Method; Granule; Flow; Angle of Repose; Discharge Rate; Shear; Rolling friction; Compression; Elastic deformation; Microstructure; Degree of compression; Tensile strength; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Simulations are powerful and important tools for gaining insight into powder processes. Ultimately, simulations have the potential to replace experiments. Thus, accurate models and insight into the essential factors for descriptions of powder behaviour are required. READ MORE
