  1. 1. Fibre flow mechanisms

    Author : Roger Bergström; Ulf Björkman; Bo Norman; Mark Martinez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fibre flow; floc; shear; compression; fibre network; stress chain; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The flow behaviour, and primarily the floc-floc interaction, of pulp paper suspensions have been studied visually. Analogy models based on these observations have been developed as well as the identification of important parameters of floc break-up in low shear rate flow fields. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bio-inspired retinal optic flow perception in robotic navigation

    Author : Björnborg Nguyen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; robotic navigation; active fixation; visual perception; bionics; Retinal optic flow fields; gazing; optic flow; retinal flow path;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the bio-inspired visual perception of motion with emphasis on locomotion targeting robotic systems. By continuously registering moving visual features in the human retina, a sensation of a visual flow cue is created. An interpretation of visual flow cues forms a low-level motion perception more known as retinal optic flow. READ MORE

  3. 3. On methods for estimating oceanic flow

    Author : Jenny A. U. Nilsson; Peter Lundberg; Peter Sigray; Bert Rudels; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean monitoring techniques; Barotropic flow; Baroclinic flow; Hydraulic theory; Baltic Sea; Bahía de Concepción; Oceanography; Oceanografi; Oceanography; oceanografi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to estimate and possibly quantify ocean flow by utilizing conventional and novel observational methods as well as model results. Motionally induced voltages, from a cable-based observational system in the Baltic Sea, were analysed to determine their utility for ocean monitoring. READ MORE

  4. 4. Visual Flow Display for Pilot Spatial Orientation

    Author : Lars Eriksson; Claes von Hofsten; David Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Optic flow; visual flow; peripheral vision; spatial orientation; spatial disorientation; postural control; somatogravic illusion; human centrifuge; flight displays; head-up display; head-mounted display; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Pilot spatial disorientation (SD) is a significant cause of incidents and fatal accidents in aviation. The pilot is susceptible to SD especially in low visibility when the visual system is deprived of information from outside the cockpit. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental and numerical investigations of hydrodynamic focusing of colloidal dispersions

    Author : V. Krishne Gowda; Fredrik Lundell; Daniel Söderberg; Lynn Walker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; flow focusing; colloidal fiber dispersion; effective interfacial tension; microflow morphology; nanoparticle orientation; Mikrofluidik; flödesfokusering; kolloidala dispersioner; effektiv ytspänning; mikroflödesmorfologi; orientering av nanopartiklar; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). READ MORE
