1. Pressurized entrained-flow high temperature black liquor gasification : CFD based reactor scale-up method and spray burner characterization
Abstract : Black liquor is an important by-product in the chemical kraft pulping process, which provides the paper mill with pulp. Due to both economical and environmental protection driving forces it is important to recover the pulping chemicals and energy contained in the black liquor. READ MORE

2. ON THE EFFICIENCY OF DISPLACEMENT VENTILATION, with Particular Reference to the Influence of Human Physical Activity
Abstract : The efficiency of room ventilation by the displacement principle was studied with respect to some influential factors, in particular that of physical activity. The study was experimental and performed in two full-scale test rooms, one of office-size and one of classroom-size. READ MORE

3. Combustion, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer in Oxy-fuel and Air-Fired CFB boilers
Abstract : The studies described in this thesis develop and encode modeling tools for the design and scale-up of oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers across a wide range of operational conditions. The modeling comprises fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer and uses expressions that are proposed in this work or derived from the literature, together with experimental data obtained under both oxy-fuel-fired and air-fired conditions. 4. Direct-Ground Cooling Systems for Office Buildings: Design and Control Considerations
Abstract : Direct-ground cooling systems are defined as systems in which the ground is used as the only source for cooling mainly in commercial buildings. These systems benefit from exchanging heat with the ground, of which its temperature is basically constant below a certain depth year around. READ MORE

5. LES of Jets and Sprays Injected into Crossflow
Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to numerically simulate a fluid jet injected into a crossflow of the same or another fluid, respectively. Such flows are encountered in many engineering applications in which cooling or mixing plays an important role, e.g. gas turbine combustors. READ MORE
