  1. 16. Fundamental processes in thin film growth : The origin of compressive stress and the dynamics of the early growth stages

    Author : Daniel Magnfält; Ulf Helmsersson; Eric Chason; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The fundamental mechanisms behind the generation of compressive stresses in polycrystalline thin films, the effects of pulsed deposition fluxes on the dynamics of the early growth stages as well as the generation of energetic Ar+ ions in high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) discharges has been studied in this thesis.It was found that compressive film stresses in Mo films deposited using energetic vapor fluxes are correlated with high film densities while only a slight lattice expansion compared to relaxed Mo was found. 2. 17. Harmonic Mitigation in Traction Drives

    Author : Hans Bängtsson; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydraulics; Mechanical engineering; converter; line interference; track circuit; Railway signalling system; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik;

    Abstract : In railway traffic the low friction between wheel and rail causes long braking distances, normally much longer than the sight distance of the driver, i.e. if the driver starts the braking when a problem on the track is discovered, it might be too late to brake the train. Therefore, safe railway traffic can not only rely on the driver. READ MORE

  3. 18. Mesoscopic phenomena in hybrid superconductor/ferromagnet structures

    Author : Taras Golod; Vladimir Krasnov; Alexandre Bouzdine; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis explores peculiar effects of mesoscopic structures revealed at low temperatures. Three particular systems are studied experimentally: Ferromagnetic thin films made of diluted Pt1-xNix alloy, hybrid nanoscale Nb-Pt1-xNix-Nb Josephson junctions, and planar niobium Josephson junction with barrier layer made of Cu or Cu0.47Ni0.53 alloy. 4. 19. Parametric interactions with signals and the vacuum

    Author : Michael Roger Andre Simoen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vacuum; circuit-QED; interferometer; SQUID; dynamical Casimir effect; multimode resonator; pumpistor; mode conversion; superconducting circuits; parametric amplification;

    Abstract : In this thesis I present different experiments on superconducting circuits exploring parametric interactions with external signals and the vacuum in the microwave regime. These parametric processes are the result of the periodic modulation of a property of a system which results in different interactions. READ MORE

  5. 20. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Author : Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial skin symptoms; office illness; electrical hypersensitivity; physical environment; flicker; jitter; neurophysiological effects;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS).
